Looks like a good solid weld. A little grinding, sanding and buffing should do it. Glad you're ok man.

Thanks Hoko!
No leaks after about 70 miles nonstop. I think we're good.

Is that the same Vance & Hines exhaust system you had clearance problems with?

Yeah,it's the same pipes. It really tucks up better than most pipes you see,but it will still hit. If you are leaning hard and you hit a bump it'll hit. If no bump then I can drag that peg without the pipe scraping. It's strange.

It's really sad how little I've made time to ride this summer. Remember when I put the Trailtech dash on? Well, I've only racked up 767.6 miles since then.
Mostly it's because the bike has never ran right since I laid it down. And I haven't had time to address the issue. There's something up with the carburetion and I think it's simply the norm: I'm falling victim to the whole ''pods don't jive with CV'' issue. Hot and dry, it runs ok. Cool or high humidity and it starts running funky on topend. But while out riding yesterday I had (first time ever on this bike) and bad crosswinds issue on the highway. Yup, pods.
Anyway, at least I'm back on the road now. 767 miles...sheesh. What's more, 250+ of those miles were yesterday and this this morning.
Stay tuned. A permanent carburetor fix is on it's way.

But I thought you had the pods working correctly. Yea right. You should have gotten those CRs. TOOLS

I gave them an honest effort. And like I said, I wanted to ride them in all conditions before saying they were working.
CR's? Hmm...now there's an idea...

How about a tunnel ram style intake manifold, and use that Holley 4 barrel Daddyman gave you? TOOLS

That carb has been gone longer than Daddyman has!
I'm thinking the CR's are still a good idea. I even eyeballed hanging some roundtops on here. Very doable, it seems. I just don't want to lose my accel. pumps. Maybe it's just these goofy CV's, or maybe it's this ported head, but this bike is really thirsty on cold starts. Full choke and ten cranks of the throttle. I know. Sounds like a ton, but 5 twists does nothing. It'll just spit and cough. 10 cranks and she fires right up and purrs.

Overall nice concept bike. Any thoughts of ditching those oem pipes with an aftermarket exhaust?

Sorry bud. Totally missed your post. I've got a V&H 4-1 on it now. Definitely improved top end while killing bottom end. Racier sound, too. TBH, I prefer the sound and the power of the 4-2.
Well, I did the unthinkable...I built a luggage rack for this bike.
If you're wondering, the funny side hoops are to help support the soft bags when they are on the bike.
They tend to sag when expanded and loaded.
Scored a big ol' tank bag with a HUGE map pocket, too. Really happy with this bag. Looking forward to actually using it! Yep, that's a full face helmet in there for size reference.
And the strength test. As dressed, I was a svelte 230 lbs ^^^ I think it's strong enough.

Thanks Hoko! And I agree. Cant believe I used to be so hard on bike with luggage. Still can't bring myself to permanently mount anything. And there will be no Vetter in my future. :D
Been playing with the CV's and pods some more. Kinda interesting. I'll explain better when I'm not on a phone.

These just got here. Mikuni flat side CV's off an early GSXR. I'm pretty excited to see about fitting these to the bike.
Supposedly, they are very pod friendly. First I noticed was the weight. Stock carbs come in right at 10 lbs. These are 4.5 lbs.
No choke. Just a fuel enrichment circuit. Mixed emotions about this.

Just out of curiosity how much did those run?

Nothing wrong with a fuel enrichment circuit. Kawasaki used it for years, and it works pretty good.

Truck, I probably overpaid, but they were $100. But the cane from a trusted source , so I knew they were healthy. No stripped holes or dry rubber. At ~$20 each, good diaphragms make it worth it.
Tools, I agree, now that I've seen it. I was imagining additional seals/gaskets/o-rings...,but that's not the case. Just a simple brass needle. Nothing to fail. Yippee!

I must say I was shocked to see the exact same carbs im using.excellant!you will love them.i have screened velocity stacks on mine and boy what a difference from the old carbs.i just stumbled on this thread and couldn't help adding my two cents.plus im a carb nut..i don't usually add much to the sight but you guys are great.learned an awful lot...anyway im very interested in seeing how you like them.

sure,be glad to.i can tell you what ive done .my bike is stock except for 4 into 2 pretty open and cbr coils.the valves should be spot on..004 is my valve clearance.not by the manual..not sure on yours because of the engine size.my jetting goes 150 mains (huge but necessary)32.5 slow jet-emulsion type,150 air jet under diaphragm.my needle is u.k. version 4d13 has grooves set on 3rd groove from bottom.2 and quarter turns out on fuel/air mix. for mounting I used radiater hose (will go down in a bit to get measurements..i custom cut copper inserts to strengthen and help with flow.they work great imo.i kept inlets as short as possible for strength.i have not fealt the need for a brace.lot of patience with this process.on intake side I like the stacks for laminar airflow!these carbs would work without anything on them as you will see..they are easy to clean, tune, sync and get off the bike.oh forgot float height-real sensitive on these..14.6.there are picts of both old carbs and new on members bikes.not the prettiest bike but this thing moves will bury the needle yet run tame thru the city.i love my Honda! there is a bike junkyard a mile from me.theres a bunch more I could add im sure but this is a good general..i think you will find you didn't over pay!please ask anything.hope this helps
