Top End Knock

dgreenbluet
So Im new to the CB 750 world and I dont know a whole lot about the bike.  What i do know is that i love the way they look and im in the market to buy one.  I found a 78 CB 750 on craigslist that is 3 hours away from me for $600 but it has what the owner calls a "top end knock".  My question is could this just be valves out of adjustment?  I havent heard the bike myself but plan to on Wednesday, so maybe I could upload a video of it running to the thread.  It is the DOHC engine.  Not sure on miles???  The ad also says it comes with a spare engine that has bottom end damage but who really knows until you get it torn apart.  Here's a link to the craigslist ad Click Here  Let me know what you think.  Thanks

Also did they make 78's with the DOHC?  According to wikipedia(i know) the DOHC came out in 79?  Kinda strange.

With out hearing it it is hard to tell. However it is common, for these bikes to sound like they have a knock when the carbs need synced. $600.00 does not seem to bad. These bikes usually go, for around $1000.00-$1800.00.

Just got an email from the seller, its got 26950 miles on it.  He said he would have to rig up a gas tank to get it started??? Not sure what that means but doesnt sound good.  Maybe the tank on it is rusted inside???

Sounds like it. I would offer $300.00, for it.

It is definitely odd that he says it's a 1978 DOHC. Because, as you rightly say, the DOHC did not come out until 1979. I would say it has to be either a 1979 or later, or a SOHC

Yeah definitely a DOHC engine in the pic.  Wonder if he has a title in hand, that should clear things up alittle.

I would ask if he has a title before going to look at it.
