Haha I'm no tailor for sure.

Looks like I have a short now. Got left on the side of the road today. Had to have my wife pick me up. No power with ignition on. Battery even shows 0. With it off the battery show 12v.

There is a weird issue with the engine not slowing down too. Ever so often I'll pull the clutch in shift down and come to a stop or begin coming to a stop and notice the engine is still up around 4k rpm. If I let the clutch out it slows the engine down but why would it spin so fast with the throttle off. It only idles at 1100. I may need to ride more to establish a pattern but it is a little concerning. It's almost like the carbs are getting stuck open or not closing all the way with the throttle cable but if thst were the case letting go of the clutch wouldn't so it down.  I noticed I can let the clutch out some and pull it back it to get a normal idle again. Strange!

Not a short just a bad battery.  Going to look for a replacement and get back on the road.

Rode 37 miles today without breaking down woohoo!

Out of curiosity can anyone tell me what their RPMs are at 60MPH?  I'm right around 4800 or so, maybe 5000.  It seems a little high to me but I've never owned one of these before. This MAC exhaust is a little loud at 5K RPM too.  I'm not used to that, I suppose the red line is 9500 so I don't think I need to be worried.  Maybe I'm just being a pansy but I'm a little afraid of going much of 6K RPM so far 65MPH is as fast as I've taking her.

I've always had pretty quite bikes. I need to do another compression test because before the valve lash was right my compression was low.  I have that in the back of my head too.  I'm worried I'll be trying to figure out how to install rings over the winter. That all I was thinking about during my ride today.

Maybe I just need to sell this thing and get a cb900 ;)

Bikes not running again.  It starts for a second and dies.

Could it be more battery issues.  The stock battery was 160CCA and the one I just bought is only 55CCA.  It is a BS Battery BTX5L-BS.  I wonder if each time I start the bike I damage the battery a little because it's not strong enough for the starter.

I'm confused because once it starts I thought it would run and the battery is basically out of the equation.

Right now it only starts for a second and turns off again. It seems to run longer with the charger attached.  Someone told me if the battery isn't strong enough it won't fire the coils.  The coils fire enough to start the bike but could they stop firing if the battery is damaged?

I'm thinking of buying this littium battery https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DX891FG

What do you guys think?   Could the stator be bad too or contributing to the problem? How can I tell.  Voltage when running tested 15V at 4K rpm.

I was low on oil. added 1/2qt of oil and it's running on 2 cylinders now. Gonna pull the plugs they might have gotten fooled from all the cranking. At least I hope that's all it is. I could use new spark plug boots too.

Got it running on 3 cylinders. I have spark on #2 but the exhaust pipe is not hot like the others. I think it starts firing around 4k RPM.  I went riding for about an hour and after hitting highway speed it idles at 2k then slowly comes down to 1500 or so. That's another reason I think that #2 cylinder isn't firing right. Seems like I set the idle on 3 cylinders and so when all 4 are firing the idle is higher.

What do you guys think? Bad coil or going bad? Bad spark plug wire or boot?

At slow speed it's a little rough but up around 4k rpm or higher it's running great. Really strong actually.

Vacuum leak on the rubber boot between the head and intake manifold on that cylinder. Or improper valve clearance.

Thanks I'll check for a vacuum leak today.
