Well not as bad as a former friend of mine that has a body shop. Another friend that collects muscle cars brought him a 1970 Plymouth Superbird to repaint. This former friend took, so long to get it finished (and this is after I had done all the body work, and block sanding) that things began to pile up on it, and we started referring to it as "The Superbench" When the guy finally demanded it be finished, all the body had to be block sanded again because of all the new dents. That car left with body putty on every panel. Former friend ended up getting sued over it, and lost.

They should, but I would at least put the jug's on before installing it into the frame.

I cracked open a caliper tonight. Ugh,funky fluid! And why does nobody believe in antisieze???Especially on aluminum? Wall thickness is right at 5mm on these. Not sure what I'm gonna do here. 5mm is only .200''. If I shave 2.5mm off the calipers that only leaves me with 2.5mm.or 0.1'' of clearance to the spokes. I dont feel comfortable shaving any more off the body of the caliper, but I'm not sure that will give me enough clearance.

Do spokes flex that much?

I found it real interesting that these calipers run two different size pistons. I have no idea why. Gotta do some research on that now...

Long overdue progress today.

I took the caliper's to Eric's shop and got him to mill 2mm off the mounting ears for me. This cured the clearance issue with the spokes.

It's still close at 3mm of clearance. We'll see how this works.

Turned out the axle spacers, too. I got off on my measurements somewhere and ended up not getting the hub perfectly centered between the forks stanchions. I'm 0.010'' to the left. But I'm calling it good at ten thou. lol

And finally, one spoked rim mounted to GSXR front end. Just gotta sort out getting the rotors adapted next.

I recently got motivated to work on this bike again and it feels good. The reason I lost my motivation is because of the oil tank. Uh...it kinda got destroyed I had an avalanche of BBC parts land on it and demolish it. Totally bummed me out. Oh well, time to get over it and build another.

Probably not Johnny. I don't know of anywhere I could fit a round tank on the bike. I got a little carried away with hiding everything and pretty much have myself worked in to a corner now. Lol. I'm gonna try and inflate the tank I got tonight and see if I.can salvage it.

And for the record, Mr Kansas City, I was kinda fond of that tank. So.. :p.

Inflation. Hmm. I need to see if I can get a dent out of my gas tank with inflation.

For the green tube, why not mount it to the outside frame and put NOS stickers on it!

Make sure to paint it blue first. :D

Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

This post was updated on .
That's doable, and not really a bad idea. I'm considering putting it in the tail right now. I can get the plumbing routed there OK and a filler cap in the top of the tail would cool anyway. I wanted it down low for CofG reasons, but with my fat butt in the saddle that's sort of a moot point.

Hackjob Update:

Started in on the rotor-hub adapters. I got the left side made and the alignment is good to the caliper. I still have to sort out the mounting holes/threads,but I'm pleased with the progress so far. They dont look quite as bulky as I was afraid they were going to be. Plus, they help hide that dinky 16mm axle in there.

Darkside Build within a build Kickoff:

There she is. $400 worth of leaky, V-twin goodness and probably worth every penny.

No title. The inspection sticker on the fork leg is from 1985. The story is the old man that bought this bike (pre 1985,I'm assuming) never did anything with it but throw a tarp over it. It's amazing how well it held up actually. When I picked it up everything was free: motor, clutch, both brakes and wheels-so I took a chance on the only Har...you know...that'll I'll ever be able to afford.

As of now the compression checked out at a scary 90 psi on the front cylinder and 60 on the rear. But a wet test gave me a fast 125 psi on the front and about 10 revolutions gave me 115 on the rear. It may need rings, but I think it's worth going after. BTW,you oughta see this thing when you crank the starter over. It shakes the whole bike! It almost looks like it's gonna fall off the side stand

Oh yeah, the starter solenoid was boogered. The end was broke off of it. But since this thing actually has a bendix style starter (really?wow...) I couldn't just pop any old solenoid on there. A new one was $56 (not happening) so I found a solenoid rebuild kit for it.

The mighty bendix

Boo..bad solenoid

And of course the carburetor looked like...well,like it had been sitting under a tarp since 1985. All clean now and awaiting a kit.

Yay! Just one carb to do!lol

So as of now I have a solenoid rebuild kit, points and condenser and a carb kit on the way.
Oh,and the bike is a 1975 Sportster XLH. It's 1,000 cc and a 4 speed.
Annnd the tab:
