Sounds like you have your coil to point's wires crossed. This would make it 180* out of time, and sound just like you described.

Supposed to be, but I have seen them where they need to be yellow to blue, and vice versa.

Looks good. Just use some 2" X 1/8" flat bar stock, and bend it to make a seat bracket/gusset.

No not running, I am going to get some new spark plug boots and plugs. Rebuild the carbs and try again. Not to worried I had it running befor I pulled the motor out of the parts bike last summer. Shouldn't have sold the coils.

Did a little work on getting the tank set up. It is from a 79 Yamaha 1100. I think I had to change the mounting bracket. It was not even close to bolting it down. So I cut it all off. Then took some 1/8 thick flat stock tacked and welded it on. You need to have some thing to weld your mount to that will distribute the stress from the mount should the tank get hit or some thing. Welded the mount back on where I liked it. Now for the mounting brackets on the bike. I used 1/2 cold rolled steel for my pins. Sat the tank up where it looked good and started measuring and cutting. Then poff Next for the mount at the back of the tank. I used 1/4 inch plate. Cut it to size drilled a hole and welded it on. Fit everthing up and am pleased with it so far. The bracket at the back of the tank will double for the set. I love the width of the tank it just fits the bike.
