I myself hate to work on bikes that do not have the center stand. I would shorten it.

Center stands are fantastic. Until they drag every time you turn hard left. I'd take a paddock stand over a center stand any day. Jmo.

Tools would you happen to know the size of the crush washers for the damper bolt?

I went to home Depot today and purchased some copper tubing to make the spacers. I could not find the bolts or washers that I needed and the hardware store I usually go to closed early for the holiday.

It can be an aluminum or copper crush washer either one. Harbor Freight sells a complete set of crush washers in a case for not a lot of money.

Help! So I finally got damper bolts and when I try putting them back in I can feel the damper inside spinning. Are they not seated correctly?

They will spin. The best thing to do is to install the spring and top cap on. The spring will put pressure on the damper, and hold it. Then use an impact (if you have one) to tighten the bolts down.

Unfortunately I don't have an impact wrench. The spring is in was kind of a pain to get the cap back on. Not sure what else to try...

Might need to take it back apart and make sure the bolt is threading in nice and smooth. The rod'll spin if you have sticky threads.

I did that. I may have bought the wrong thread pattern. Back to the hardware store. I thought I bought another set but could not find them in the bag.

If you can't run them in all the way by hand then they're not clean enough. Either wire brush them, run a tap or die where needed or, like you mentioned, make sure the threads match.
