Wire wheel and lab metal cleaner then 2000 degree primer and engine enamel

Took the headlight bracket and cut them down, losing the turn signal. I'll be inverting them to lower the light. Wire wheel, sand paper then primed and painted black.
|
|
Got the trumpet ends welded on, filled all the burn through. Took fever with grinding. In hind sight I probably would just buy the mufflers. Spent about 100.00 on materials and could have bought the mufflers for around 220.00. After I finished grinding I coated them with manifold cement to even them out. Will sand before painting.

So here's a question for you tools. I definitely stripped the hex bold at the bottom and was not able to get the smaller piece out. I went ahead and cut the springs. Is this going to screw me later? I tried pb blaster, heat... stripped.
|
|
You may also notice the triple tree top in the photo above. I cut the built in risers off and filled the void with weld then ground them down.

New tires. Went with bridgestone spitfires. Also parts. Got an led diode kit and a bunch of 200 ohm resistors to replace the huge indicator lights. I also bought a 4 fuse, fuse block to replace the old tube style one that I'll mount behind the light.

Took the headlight off to prep for paint.

If you do not put the spacers on the damper rods, you will have a bouncy front end. Take a 5/16 inch drill bit, and just drill the head off the bolt. When the head is drilled off, you can remove the slider from the fork tube. Then use vise grips to remove whats left of the bolt.

That's good to know. I'll try to use an extractor first to see if I can get it out, if not I'll drill it out. Just worried about messing up the threads and leaking oil... speaking of oil. I've read people use atf? Or should I go to honda and but fork oil?

If you try using an easy-out type extractor, you WILL MESS IT UP!!!! Just drill the head off! Some people do use ATF as that is what Honda recommends. It will not hurt to use fork oil though. I think it holds up better. Fork oil takes a severe beating.

Thanks. Anyone know the speedometer ratio? Is it 2240:60? Tools, lol I feel like you would know.

If you post one more sideways picture... 2240 @ 60 is the correct ratio, yep. It's actually 2,240 cable rpms at 60mph. I'm not sure why they write it as 2240:60, but anywho, you got the right one.

So when I drill these are the threads right below the bolt head going to be toast?
|
|
I'm also open to suggestions on a small battery solution. From what I've read I'd like to avoid the lithium ion phosphate batteries if possible. Seems like they're hit or miss. I want to be able to hide this thing though and keep the area under the seat open.

The only way for that to happen is if you drilled it for an easy out. Just STOP drilling when you see the bolt head spinning. You only need to drill through the area where the allen wrench goes, and then maybe another 3/32 of an inch. At that point, the head of the bolt should be spinning. However if you really feel the need to drill further, you have around an 1/8-1/4 inch of the aluminum slider before you hit the damper where the bolt threads into. However since at this point the drill bit should be pushing the damper, and fork tube back up in the slider, you will need to clamp it down, so you can drill into the damper to really F#$% up the threads, or just drill it for an easy out, then buy a new fork. Whatever you want to do.

I wasn't doubting you tools, hope you didn't take it that way. I just was seriously clueless how to go about it. I bought a bench vise to do this. I've got a pretty bad heart condition and have been down the last couple of days but as soon as I feel up to it I will try it.
