dude that tank is sick! I love that look...Ive seen it a lot on street rods and rat rods and it definitely adds a HUGE cool factor to any vehicle. I may have to give it a shot? I lightly sprayed some green self etching primer on it last night and Im gonna scuff it up and see what it looks like with a little contrast in there? Like yall said, if its ugly just sand and repaint

So after spraying with primer and scuffing up, to get a patina look, I couldnt stop. I kept sanding and sanding and sanding....then a little bondo....and sanded some more. I kept finding little dents and kept fixing them. After all that mess I figured since I spent all the time filling and blocking that I should just go ahead and finish her with a solid color instead of patina. But its all good, Im sticking to my original plan and thats unusual for me. I usually bounce around and cant ever stick to it.
So the tank is officially in primer.....seeeeeeeeeeee?? ooooooooooo ahhhhhhhhhhh

And while I was waiting on the bondo and primer to dry an idea struck me! Ive been trying to think of a place to mount my led indicator lights, when *WHAM!!!* itd been right in front of my nose the whole time...literally! I had a perfectly good headlight bucket that needed to have a few extra holes in it and this is what I ended up with:

its out of the way, in perfect viewing range and it puts the wires right in the other bundle of wires without having to re-route them, so its a win win...win? Now all it needs is a good coat of paint and my headlight can finally make its home on my bike, instead of in a box!? yipeeeeee!

Awesome idea with the headlight, my only worry is are they waterproof? I would hate to see you riding at night, get caught in a rainstorm, and have your headlight short out.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

more than likely...no! haha but I plan on running a little bead of black silicone on the inside of the bucket to help with that. Plus the connector for the headlight has a big rubber boot over it and one on the back of the light itself, so "hopefully" I wont run into any problems??

Ahh, hopefully. The word that plagues many a man on the side of the road.

Silicone and the rubber boot should be enough, I would think. Just make sure the silicone doesn't get too hot and start baking.

That looks nice man.REALLY nice! All of it .The tank, the indicator lights. I dig it! Ya got a little OCD on the tank, huh? LOL.It happens. I for one am glad to see you going this route...I like shiny things you know. BUT,now that it is gonna be all nice and shiny when the patine does start to show (...blue jeans...it WILL have patina) you can be proud in the fact that you earned that patina, not created it. And that kind of  patine deserves to live!

Thank you shiny! Its getting there....slowly....or should i say "slownugly"!? hahaha wow yea those paint fumes and work are getting to me now! c'mon 5 o'clock!!! Oh and OCD is an understatement with me. Sometimes I have to literally yell at myself to let things go and realize no one will ever notice half the things I worry about. Like take for instance a dent on the UNDERSIDE of the tank, no not the bottom part of the body line, the underside that humps over the frame!? I actually considered sanding and filling in a dent....then I came to my senses and drilled holes in my headlight instead! haha

Yes, that is a great way to tell if you have come to your senses, when you start drilling random holes in things... lol, that headlight does look cool though

May have to use that cool idea,I think I can bring in and down my sttock gauges and make enough room if I take out the indicator lights around the key hole..
Need to squeezze all wireing on the inside of a 56 inch light bucket also, got a plan-man..

Paint can always change the colors like leave's on the tree's with the seasons.

hmmmmmmmmm??? Okay so I got my indicator lights hooked up and everything works except the oil and neutral lights? When I hit the key it just barely flickers but very dim and only for a split second. I double checked my fuses and they're all good? Is there something with led lights and needing a lot of juice in order to light up? It's odd, the turn signal lights work fine not super bright but enough to see and the hi beam light is really bright...any ideas?

Thats strange cuz LED's actually require very little amperage to operate. Good question.

wooo hoo!!!! got it fixed, didnt think it would matter having the power and ground wires switched at the light....but I guess I was wrong!? Switched the wires, turned the key and my headlight bucket looked like christmas morning!!!

One a side note: I purchased a set of 4 smoked cat eye turn signals and Im not gonna use them, so if anybody wants them Ill take $20 plus shipping. Theyre brand new and still in the package....well minus the one I took out of the package for the picture

SOLD!  PM SENT

They are NOT LEDs,right? I dont really care for LED's. And they do have chrome bodies?Looks like it.
I'll get with you on those. I dig the smoked lenses. I havent seen those and have wanting to tone down mine, they are too noticeable.
