That is a set of K model forks. I'm guessing, you have the wrong seal.

Why would the piston measure to be 42.8 mm across? The piston per the vintagecb750 site is 38 mm. And the kit they shipped me is the same part number as what they say is for a 81 750k like I have.

Am I able to use a generic o-ring for this? Or does it have to be the straight cut?

It has to be one of the straight cut-or square ring seals.A typical round o-ring probably wouldn't hold up to the pressure.

Man,that sucks. You waited on parts then got the wrong ones. And not by your fault. Thats the worst.

I'm sending them an e-mail since I have a job interview at 2 pm. Going to send 'em the pictures and a link to this thread so they can see the bike and help determine what I've got as well.

In other news, what sort of company conducts in-person interviews on a Sunday at 2 pm when they are in a city that's typically hung over on Sundays? Lol.

Um, a lot of business people are hung over at work and just know how to hide it, lol. I work at a bank and they tell me about their meetings they go to and everyone there was partying the night before, all running off of like 3 hours of sleep and all hung over badly, still have productive meetings.

Well, I have threads up on dotheton and cb750c.com. Hopefully someone over there can identify what I've got.

Now off to put up a wanted thread for both and see what I get. Hoping someone can identify 'em versus me buying a new caliper!

Besides, a 42.8mm piston vs. 38mm piston means more stopping power

Unless it's less because of more surface area for the fluid to cover.

Do you still have the package?  A part number search by that manufacturer should tell you what it fits.

I don't have the package in front of me, but the part number is 29-0010.

From that:

The problem is that I don't know if the caliper from any of these will fit on my forks.

I need people's opinions. Do any of these sound like a caliper that would go on my bike?

Source list:
https://cyclewareables.com/pages/street_motorcycle_caliper_repair_kits_parts/strcaliperrepair.htm

Honda: (Piston for these measured 41.8mm x 41mm vs my 42.8mm x 35.5mm)

CX500  78-79
CX500D  79-81
CX500C  79-81

However, the caliper looks like a Honda caliper... And per that site, these are the only 42.8mm calipers. https://cyclewareables.com/pages/street_caliper_pistons_honda/street_caliper_pistons_hondar.htm

Kawasaki: (Piston size actually is nearly PERFECT to what I measured. 42.8mm x 34mm vs my 42.8mm x 35.5mm)

KZ305A1/A2 CSR  81-82
KZ305B1 BELT  83
(and 47 other calipers!)

That says rear caliper kit. I thought you were working on your front caliper?

Is this what your kit looks like? Strange that the rear caliper would hold a larger piston than the front?

I am. But I'm wondering if the pieces from that rebuild kit will work with my front caliper. I bet it probably would, as 42.8mm is 42.8mm.

I have no idea what I've got for a front caliper lol. It might be a rear caliper for all I know!

But he has an 81 model. I think he has the wrong kit.

The wrong kit from vintagecb750? Per them, my piston diameter is wrong. Here's what went back n forth:

Me:
Vintage CB750-

I ordered the brake kit below on the 22nd. It turns out that the seal doesn't actually fit my bike. I have a 1981 CB750K, and went to do the seal on the caliper last night but it is simply too small.

I've linked pictures showing what I'm referring to.

In this one, you can see the seal doesn't fit into the caliper. It's actually hanging off on the right side:
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/560399_10100729423007362_12101664_52975929_57904787_n.jpg

This one shows how the seal doesn't fit onto the piston. There's actually material off to the side.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/559557_10100729420367652_12101664_52975922_1694269237_n.jpg

Is there a way to verify whether the seal in the kit is the proper seal? I measured the piston with a caliper, it's 42.8mm across. The seal definitely does not work for this piston. In case you want to see the forks to determine if I actually have a CB750K, here's a link to a thread with quite a few different pictures.

http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/1981-CB750K-Repair-Tune-up-td3846604i40.html

Them:
I tried looking into this for you but currently I am stumped. I would be happy to send a refund your way for this item. I know this will not fix your bike up but hopefully you are able to find the part you need elsewhere? Please let me know if this sounds good, sorry I can't help more with this I would love to do what ever I can to get your bike on the road. Also, can you please let me know your order number so I can refund you for this item.

Thank You for your understanding,

So they checked out what happened, I'm guessing this thread, but they aren't sure either. Plus, they say their piston for the CB750K is a 38mm piston. So I'm thinking they sent the right kit, I have an off-shoot caliper. I think that kit, while for the back of the bike, should work on my caliper at least.

I knew I was strong, but so strong that I was able to enlarge the piston? Dang!

I mean, I even got them quite close in tolerance, where if it's not PERFECTLY straight the dang thing wants to stop from going in! I'm just amazing!
