But if the seal they sent is 38mm it wont fit your caliper. Or am I way off?
Does your front caliper look like your rear? From what the factory setup looked like on my '76 rear disc,I dont see how they would interchange.

Why are, you using a kit, for a 77-78 Super Sport on an 81 K model?

There is a picture of the seal in the caliper lol. The seal is tiny inside the caliper. It fits in, but it hangs in the middle. The piston itself measures a diameter of 42.8mm and the caliper is JUST barely larger than that. I could probably get a feeler gauge in there it's so close. It's definitely matched.
As for the rear, it's drum. So I don't know what it is sized up to accordingly.

Because the brake caliper isn't off a 81 K model. The piston is too large for a K model. But the 77/78 F has a 42.8mm piston.
I've either got to purchase an entire caliper, hope it's complete, hope the piston is decent, rebuild it and put it on the bike but that'd take 2 weeks and I don't really want to spend $100. On the other side, I don't know what I've currently got for a caliper, which makes buying a kit for it more difficult!

Because it carries the same part number as what his should be.Strange

Yep. Odd indeed.
ARRGGHHHH. I'm just going to order a random kit tomorrow and see/hope it fits. We'll find out.
Meanwhile, found out that you can fix the piston by putting JB Weld on the piston, clean it/smoothen the pits with a razor blade, then once dry sand until perfectly smooth.
I may try that if I can't find and track down a piston for this. Will have to repair vs replace this one.

I was re-reading your entire thread to see if I missed something.
Tools, you verified that he has the proper forks, right?
So we just need to figure out what your caliper is.
Is it a possibility that it is off of a GL? Since it has a bigger bore did someone "upgrade it" to larger brakes?<--- that one is for you Tools.

|
Just got an e-mail from a member on here responding to my wanted ad. Said he'd send me this for a decent price. Just wondering if this rust is something to worry about regarding the bore? I'm considering getting this caliper, and e-mailing vintagecb750 to see if they'd ship out a new piston today so I'd have it by Friday. Then, depending when this guy ships the caliper, I can have my good caliper on and riding by Saturday!

SUCCESS. I'VE FIGURED OUT WHAT I'VE GOT.
From the service manual:
So what this means is, I need to pick up a kit that's made for a 42.8mm caliper. Which, per an ebay seller that stocks a bunch of kits, this works:
http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=1224There may just be hope yet...
I didn't think the specs would be in the shop manual. I guess I was wrong.

Well, just ordered this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380389700106?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1029Was told by another company that this kit is a 42mm seal. So it's .8 mm off, BUT I'm guessing that'll be 'close enough'. The other company, however, wanted nearly $50 shipped and was coming from Canada. This company, while not the absolute cheapest I could find, was only a couple dollars more than the absolute cheapest and is 1 state away.
If they ship it today, I should have it tomorrow or Friday. So tonight's plans are to insure/title/plate the bike, put some JB Weld on the piston, and pick up some boots. And button the seat up.
It's got bags on it, too, which I think make it look better. Usable, too.

So are, you saying that, you had the wrong seal kit? If only someone on the forum could have noticed that. TOOLS

It's odd in that everywhere I turned it said 38mm. Even the dealer said 38mm.
FSM to the rescue once more! Meh, at least I'm going to get a return on my kit. Hope the caliper will be rebuilt by this Friday.
Thanks for the help TOOLS1. Have a drink on me tonight.

Not to mention that even the 'correct' kit isn't listed as being for my bike.

Hey Cdaiscool,I just noticed something. Check out Seesthe day's post titled CBX. It has a caliper just like your mystery caliper
|
|
Ya, that's why one of those which I was posting about yesterday were the CBX500's. I had found earlier they have the same caliper design.
Apparently they put a bigger-piston on those babies. The piston kit that's coming works with the CBX1000 actually.
Good looking out!

Quick question.
Was buttoning everything up, and along with some missing bolts I think I'm missing a bracket.
Is there something that goes here? Or is this the wrong bolt?
