This stuff?

This is pretty much what the Hondabond and Permatex stuff is. Just a different brand.

Hondabond: (always use the HT stuff)
http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/HON-08718-0004.html

The Hondabond is a silicone, except this shit does NOT get slick. Whatsoever.

Permatex:

Re: 1981 CB750K - Repair/Tune-up

Well, since the parents were hampering my riding in the street, I decided to finish a couple loose ends.

-The gasket, after looking it over, apparently was puffing out from the side. It appears it didn't stay in the groove when I was putting it on, and since it was dark I didn't see it. The back one, that goes over the gears, didn't appear to have any oil coming from it. Just the one in front that has 'Honda' on it. Took that off, cleaned it, put black Permatex in it (per the bottle, it said it's the best for oil resistance, so I went with it) and put the gasket back on it. No more leaks, at least over the last few hours. Since it's not a pressure area (AFAIK) I doubt it'll leak while riding. I'd say there's only one way to know, but with Shitty Parent down the road, I can't at this time.

-The brakes still felt a bit weak, so I re-bled 'em. Got a few small bubbles out again. Then several pulls of absolutely nothing. So I went ahead and closed it up. Brakes feel MUCH better.

-The center stand was most definitely hitting the chain. So I decided to get ingenuitive and make something that'd work. Took a piece of cardboard, designed up a bracket that'd work (the one shown earlier wouldn't, since my exhaust is in the way directly underneath) and then cut a piece out the same size from an old computer desktop. It's made of cheap steel or aluminum, and eats my cutoff wheels. I then cleaned up the edges so they weren't COMPLETELY razor sharp, and ran the wheel over the top. Looks a lot better. I may just leave it as-is versus painting it.

Check it out!

I have a picture showing that it's no longer hitting the chain, but in the picture it looks like it is. Damn angles.

What is up with your tail pipes? They look cool as $#!t ! You got stock intakes? Since your exhaust has been opened up(looks like,at least) if the intakes are free flowing as well you might be running lean. That would explain the now wanting to rev.

Oh,and the black permatex is not the same as the ultra black.ULTRA black! It's the good stuff. I buy it by the caulking tube.Couple dollars more than the lil squeeze ketchup looking pouches and has about 5-6 times the amount of gooey greatness inside

I'm not entirely sure if it's black, or Ultra Black. I think it's Ultra Black.

The pipes were already on the bike when I got it. So no clue about 'em. I do really like them though. I'll make a video of what they sound like tomorrow. I like the sound of 'em, not going to lie.

I don't know a dang thing about how to tune carbs. So I'm going to run 'em as-is. My long-term plan is to rebuild the motor, do a full carb clean/rebuild, and then take it to a shop to get tuned.

Whether that's an 823 or just a re-ring is yet to be decided.

I like this post, and that is my end goal. If, for whatever reason, she does stop I'll just begin my fixing of 'er at that point. Otherwise, I'll break into her once my Integra's up for the season. If she dies before the Integra's rolling, then I'll just start fixing my bike at that time instead.

And Shiny, my intake is stock afaik. I was going to open the airbox cover to check the air filter, but forgot to. And now that the seat's on, after fighting it for an hour (no joke nor exaggeration) she's staying on for now. I'm going to assume the dealer checked it when they had it and decided it was good, as I asked them to do a full look over and tune-up, and they did.

Once my dad's got a few lessons into my head, I'll probably start riding 'er a lot more. Now if I can just figure out a way to keep my pants clean so I can wear nice pants to work and not fret about 'em getting dirty...

Oh, and Shiny - I looked at the Permatex I've got. It's definitely the Ultra Black. It's the good stuff.

From what I've heard,if the air filter is stock you don't have to mess with the jets/tine of the carb, even with different exhaust. So that should make life a little easier on you.

823 kit (for us DOHC guys) is the biggest for stock bottom end. Bigger requires custom work in combustion chamber and rebuilt bottom end.

I paint from a spray can lol. And I have always liked forward controls.  I have highway pegs right now but they are really short still so I don't like them a lot. I may end up getting a different seat to move me back a little bit. We will see though.

Re: 1981 CB750K - Repair/Tune-up

Holy cow. You know what's cold? Going 60 mph in 40-degree weather and crosswinds of something like 20, 30 mph.

I wore: t-shirt, long shirt, sweater, coat. Jeans and sweatpants. Vented gloves - holy shit those were cold! Also, jacket unzipped while I rode. The wind made my chest pretty cold.

My dad took me to an open parking lot, had me turn a bunch of times between 2 parking spots, figure eights, and then we went over a bunch of speed bumps. Then challenged me to keep it under 8 (I went 5, he did 2!) and then we were off. Went off to SOS and ran the course that they do to see if you're good to ride. Apparently I did well enough.

Then we hit the road some more, and finally got home. My hands were... icy.

20.8 miles all told, with a cup of hot chocolate for my dad and I afterwards. We're going out again tomorrow.

In other news, bike didn't do NEARLY as well as I'd hoped. After 20 minutes, she died while we sat and waited for a light. Died twice. Choke was all the way in, so I've learned not to do that. Also, in 5th gear, at 5200 RPMs its doing about 65 mph. The speedo bounces once it hits 50 mph, and bounces pretty good after that. So I've gotta figure out what's going on with that. Going to read the new tech article and see if I can't find something up with it.

Also couldn't get 'er to rev above 6500 rpm. I'm guessing it's carbs. So I'm going to ride some, get a little time under me, then rebuild the carbs completely. Maybe wait until my job search settles down a bit. I've got an interview Thursday afternoon (2nd interview - technical stuff) and Monday morning (same - at University of Michigan!). So once I've got those past, and I've gotten into my new position if I get it, then I'll rebuild the carbs. Then get the car pieced/back together, and then rebuild the motor of the bike.

Sounds like I've got a few months of mechanical duty ahead of me.

Cliffs: I RODE. 20.8 MILES.
