I drank a LOT of beer when I was 16. But could not afford it when I was homeless.

finally an update.(kinda)..so i broke open that relic engine and turns out it has big bore 836 pistons in it an are in good condition.i luckly found a brand new set of rings for these "powroll" pistons(powroll doesnt make pistons for cb 750s anymore).pretty sweet.im only spending $60 on pistons and rings..i was expecting to spend around $200..i went to my buds house today and did some sand blasting..SWEET!..now i just gotta wire brush everything...

Re: 78 cb 750 k

i got all the stuff brushed off and smooth.i spent a lil bit more time on the oil tank.im thinking of maybe leaving it bare metal for a while after the bikes all together..its soaking in a 5 gallon bucket of oil right now, dont want it to rust..
also,i think i changed my mind about what i want to do with this bike..im thinking it would be better if i just left the frame alone and not cut anything off..also just using what i have instead of buying or making all the custom shit i wanted to do..i really just want to get the thing running.it was a pretty complete bike when i brought it home.just needing an engine/carb rebuild, new electricals, and a seat.so thats the plan for now.
im guna get my gasket set this week.i got the pistons./new rings are on the way and ill have enough cash to get the cylinder bored out this weekend too..then ill have to wait till next month to get the head done.
also thinking that i should probly use the head and cam off the other engine(the relic with the big bore pistons)since im using the pistons all that stuff will match..

the relic engine is 74 or older.i know this because it has the old style final shaft/chain oiler that was discontinued in 74.will the head from that engine work on my 78?

Re: 78 cb 750 k

they broke when i took them off..more like crumpled to dust..sorry i didnt mention that.i took the bike apart a few months ago and i forgot about those strips until now..

i got all youre carb stuff ready to go.but the box i got is too small..im guna have to get one of those "if it fits it ships" boxs from the post office..

i got some of that carb dip stuff..it was pretty expensive and only 3/4 full..kinda a jip..is that stuff really worth the money?i got my carbs soaking in it right now...for 30 bucks,i expect to pull them out and everyting come apart without using and impact driver or force..are my expectations too high?

Yep. Way too high. The carb dip works, but, you need to let them soak, for a week or so. I doubt it will do anything towards making screws/bolts come out any easier. I finely found a local shop with a sonic cleaner. From now on that's where my carbs are going. Maybe someday I will have my own though.

You can get a new ultra sonic cleaner off ebay for $35. Not real big.Made for jewelry, but i bet one carb at a time would fit no problem. The heated ones are the machines that get expensive. They're still under $200.

that would be cool..that carb cleaner/dip doesnt work as good as i expected..be soaking over a day now and 2 of the slides are still stuck..the 2 outside carbs.
