I followed Who's your Daddy's lead and drilled my rear rotor tonight. Drilled it,turned it,scuffed it then chamfered the holes. All cleaned up and added to the Finished Pile. Thanks for the kick in the seat Hoosier. I needed that!

I started jazzing up my wheels a little. Trying to do something to help these wheels look a little more muscular,if that makes any sense at all.

While we're talking about wheels....what do ya'll think about chrome?

You know what? Screw self-imposed budgets and dead lines. I was wanting to get this bike done for a grand.$1500 tops. The motor needing gone thru jacked that idea up. I was wanting this bike ready to ride by spring, but screw it.It'll get done when it gets done. I'm not cutting corners on what I want. I hate these heavy wheels and have been trying to salvage them for sake of budget.Ugly bastards are GONE! My original plan was flanged alloy rims with stainless spokes. And thats what it'll get! It's not like I dont have two bikes to ride already.

cliff note: progress shall be slow from here on but hopefully awesomeness will result

You aint right boy lol

Weighed some rims tonight. These are weights with tires only. No cush drive,sprocket...etc.

Rear  Commie-steel spokes- 36 lbs
Rear  spoke                    - 26 lbs!     diff. 10lbs

Front Commie-AL spokes   - 19 lbs
Front spoke                    - 16 lbs       diff. 3 lbs
--------------------------------------------------

13 lbs of rotating mass is ALOT! And 10 lbs of dead weight at the driven tire is just nuts. Anxious to see the weight difference between chrome plated steel rims vs AL. Probably not much.

Thanks for the link Hoosier. I wonder how much extra the ripple spokes are? Cuz I just fell in love!

So I asked Lucky about the grips on his digger. He told me they came from Randakk's so I ordered a pair. These things feel fantastic! I can't wait to actually get them on the bike. Thanks Lucky

I've been thinking on what to do to the swing arm. Something to give it an old fashioned appearance. I originally wanted to bore holes and weld sleeves in.But warping, strength and the added weight scrapped that idea. I got another idea now. It's gonna be labor intensive, but i think it'll pay off.At least I hope. But first I had to fix all the digs and scrapes. Originally it was gonna get powder coated black so all I had to do was fix the bad areas with JB weld and PC over it. Not anymore. Break out the welder...

Violenced areas.Just the worst side.Other side just has 4 dings,no digs. How do you even do this?!

Like it never even happenedSide 2 tomorrow...don't worry.I'll spare ya.

$20 for those grips? Shit, I should have gotten some of those...

I cut my old ones off for the grip heaters, and now they're just held on with duct tape. I haven't been able to find replacements for long-distance riding I've liked.

These feel real soft and squishy. But overly squishly, like they'd wear out too fast. I can't wait to get them on the bike.$20 is the most I've ever paid for grips so far. All my others were under $10. You get what you pay for, right? Just a heads up on grips I've used. The solid bodied Gran Tourismo style grips are uncomfortable. The balloon shape+solid body= palm cramps. I tried a pair of the hollow bodied ones. Super comfy, but the outer body of the grip squirms around too much. Poor throttle feel. Just my $0.02 on that.

I tried some engine turning on the swingarm. Reverting back to my hotrod roots!I used to do this on everything. It's the kind of thing you do when it's Christmas time ,money is low but you got time. I need a better way to jig it up to get laser straight rows. Just an experiment, but I kinda like it.

Re: '78K Resto-Mod...name to come later

Hoosier Daddy
I absolutely LOVE engine turning!!! From the nose of the spirit of St Louis to the dash panels on the older Galaxey 500's and T/A's

Please share, How did you do it? Ive read to use a wooden dowel in a drill press with a little lapping compound?
I've tried it before with a round wire brush chucked up and it was a major FAILURE... Couldn't do a straight like to save my ass and the spacing was all wrong.

Hoosier, the thing about engine turning is it always looks better in photos or from a distance. So dont let your DIY engine turning discourage you. I got a tool made to do it. It's and abrasive roll that feels like a medium stiff rubber. Hard to describe, but it does work well. I went to get a link and I honestly thought I paid $18 for this thing.Their twice that now!

 Brutal honesty-I love that!

I forgot to mention when using these rubbery type mandrels you have to lube and clean often. I run a thin line of Marvel Mystery oil where I'm headed and wipe the mandrel every 5 or 6 turns to keep th ebuildup from gouging. I can't get the tool down in between the ridges of the s-arm like I want to get the pattern to overlap. But I have a cure for that Hopefully my cure won't look like SH.  LOL

I think he missed the spot right above the seat pan, behind the gas tank. Piute, wash that section again would ya?
