Pfffft. Hijack-smijack. The way I see it on these build threads its kind like inviting your buds over to your shop look at what you're working on. Talking is preferred. Standing around and not talking would be kinda strange.

Besides,I've only hijacked once or twice. Maaaaybe three times.Yeah, three at the absolute max...

Hey ribs, hows that 836 kit you got?? Did you get sleeves with that? Since my 78 F with a 915 in it i scored on CL turned out to be bone stock, and i need pistons in my K i was looking into it but havnt talked to anybody installing one. (Im sure there is a thread here some where). Also any thought on which motor would be better for a kit, F or K both 78's?

LOL. Thats funny right there

Dirty-I havent touched that 836 kit. And I probably wont until after first of the year. The kit is pistons, rings, head gasket and pins/clips. All the parts came in 4 days from Japan! The pistons looks good. No casting flash or exclusions but the finish is not great. No edges, oiling holes or gas ports are chamfered. The skirts are nice and smooth, but all the edges just need a good deburring and polishing. I've seem alot of pistons (GM V8's, not bikes) in my past and I'd say these are actually nice pieces. They're cast of course, but I'm not shooting for forced induction or N2O.

These particular pistons will work in any K engine 69-78. They will work in a 76F engine, aka F1. They are not designed to be used in the 77-78 F engine, aka F2-F3. They will fit,but the dome is wrong and static compression will be way low. All the cylinder cases are the same, the difference is in the combustion chamber of the heads. As long as its a K engine or a 76F1 engine theyre fine. There are kits available for the F2 & 3 heads, just not at this price.

It was $110+$26.50 for shipping. Everything I've heard is that the stock sleeves will bore just fine. Stock bore is 61 mm,these are 65mm. I'm not sure how far you can really go on stock sleeves. I know cycleone will do the bores for $200. I've heard there is a guy from ebay that will do them for $150 and a few guys over at SOHC4 said they were happy with the work. I havent had any luck finding someone local to do it.

I would think any competent engine builder could punch out the bore without issue. Shouldn't cost much more than like $50 either.

As for the size of the stock bore, check this site: http://www.satanicmechanic.org/bigbore.shtml

Satan wrote
Uses stock cylinder block which can be bored up to 65.5mm/850cc. Necessary modifications include boring the block, new pistons/pins/clips and head gasket. Most popular 836 kit today comes from Wiseco, at 10.25 C/R and 12 C/R. 10.25 is highly recommended for milder cams and/or low octane (low 90s) gas. Arias still has a 836 kit, too. Dynoman is listing 836cc pistons especially made for the F2 head. Cyclexchange now has a 65.5mm kit for 850cc. Yoshimura had kits for 812cc and 823cc. Some manufacturers used modified Honda CB 350 twin pistons. CB 900 DOHC pistons have 64.5mm and can make fit for 823cc but there is not much left for deep valve pockets, unfortunately. CBX six cylinder pistons have 64.5mm for 823cc, and a nice compression height.

Gee,thanks Craig. Seems like 836 at 65mm is actually kinda pushing it. Now I have that to think aboutJK man.

Got my rotors in! $56 to my door.

After I get these adapted I'll have complete roller It wont be complete ( paint.powdercoat...etc) but at least all the suspension, brakes and steering will be done. I can't wait. That's always a good feeling of completion.

Current tab             $714
02 GSXR rotors           56
-------------------------
new tab                 $770

Thanks Cool, the problem with all the engine builders i know is they cant bore anything that small. Thats why i was wondeing if it is just easier to buy sleeves for it. also if sleeves push in and out easy?
