Hey guys check out my new ride! It's an 82' CB750F SS. My long time friend gifted it to me because it was in poor shape and he bought a new bike. As I'm going through the bike and repairing or replacing things I'm noticing some very questionable fixes. I'm actually surprised this bike was running when he handed it over. For example the #2 spark plug was a 1/4 of the way out! With the plug wires superglued into the coils with no suitable end pieces. The wires were stripped at the top and wire was in a knot... Needless to say he has a desk job. The carburetor hoses were like peanut brittle, and the carb slide would take between 3-7seconds to snap back after a rev. I know.... So bad. Anyway she's mine now and I'm going through her top to bottom! I tried to post a pic but not sure if it worked... Oh did I mention she has 61,000 miles!! Not exactly new. But running like a champ, even with the shotty repairs. I'm amazed at the resilience of this bike and after I'm done I'm hoping to bring it back to real life. I'll post more pics. It's nice to be apart of this forum. I have gotten some great info from it and I hope I can help someone else.

Sorry about the pic. Here's another

Also the slip on is off because I'm re-packing it, don't worry I wouldn't be dumb enough to ride it without one

I will be amazed if it actually runs decent with those pod filters on the CV carbs... An OEM air box is your friend, with those carbs. Otherwise, very nice looking bike. Should be fantastic after you get done going through her. Cheers!

Your right the airbox is better, I wish I had it. I will try to tune the Carbs as best I can for the mods. It's gonna take some patients I'm sure. But they do look sweet!!! Sent from Milan's Verizon Wireless 4GLTE smartphone

Have you heard of or had experience with the pod filters sucking? Should I try and get a stock airbox, or try tuning the Carbs for the extra air flow? I have been lucky enough to be around some people who are amateur AMA racers, sponsored by one of the local shops in the Seattle area. From what I understand more air flow, more fuel, and a hotter spark means more power. So with the right mods and tuning I should be able to get my 750 running clean. Burning more gas up but running solid. Or am I wrong when it comes to the 82 cb750? Maybe this bike is better left OEM for consistant performance. I don't ha e a lot of experience with this bike, or era of bikes for that matter. I've owned a ninja 250 & 500, a 2004 Yamaha R6, 2003 Yamaha R1 and a KLR 650. Most time on the R6-R1. I have a 99 yz125 that's carbureted, but don't have experience with jetting. I used a power commander and a laptop to tune my R1. Anyway, if you have suggestions please tell me! Thanks! My bike is an 82, I was born in 84!

It has Constant Velocity Keihin carbs -- it is well accepted that these CV carbs can NOT be made to work with pods, period. This is from the experts from the www.cb750c.com forum.
Check e-Bay, and any local sources, for an OEM air box. To improve air flow, try an oiled, foam filter (UNI), or a K&N filter (I installed one a few years ago, like it, but no facts to back up 'improved' performance, just my butt-dyno). Cheers!

I found one on ebay and got it. What you're saying makes sense, its in the name "Constant Velocity". When the air box is installed it provides a steady and and consistent flow of air for the "Constant Velocity" Carbs to function because there is no interference from outside the box . I am assuming they work best when supplied with an intake that has constant flow. Any speed over 30 would probably force air into the Carbs leaning out the mix and effing up ur performance. Right? Hey!!!! I happen to be very fond of the short pipe look!!
Just picking with ya Your bike looks great man. I love that color scheme on those bikes. One day I hope to own one!

Your theory sounds good, but I really don't know. The airbox will solve many issues. Like I said, the UNI foam filter, or a K&N, will give you improved performance, based on my butt-dyno. Also, NGK Iridium plugs will improve the ignition system, without much investment in time, or money (~$8 per plug). They require less power to throw a hot spark, and they almost never misfire. Cheers!

The problem is the CV carbs are vacuum driven and need the vacuum created by the stock air-box to throttle up and down properly, so pod filters create no vacuum which will ruin the performance of the bike

nice bike! Welcome, like I told someone else here. you have a dohc, that makes you special right off the bat. remember a lot of the advice here is from guys with sohc, pre 1979. it took me a while to realize that some of the advice doesn't cross over to from the sohc to the dohc, i have a '80 750c.
and sometimes super glue is your friend and sometimes not.

You can find air boxes pretty cheap on e-bay or the like.

I got the new airbox, overnight delivery. I installed it charged the battery and she ran for 5 mins! I have 2 pinhole leaks in my tank though :( now that I know she works I'm gonna drain the tank and find the best solution for the pin holes. If any of you have any suggestions please let me know! Thanks!

Ok so after going through other threads and looking up products I think I'm going to go with Caswell sealer.

Your bike is so clean! I love it! ... Jealous with envy :)
