No point in syncing carbs until all the other problems are fixed.
Cam chain slack taken up. valves adjusted.
Carb accelerator pump working on all 4 nozzles.
All four carbs have idle jets clear.
Timing adjusted.
if it has points, the dwell has to be correct as well as the points gap.
The very last thing is the synching of the carbs.

I messaged the guy on ebay letting him know that I didn't want to receive a replacement rotor or have mine repaired. I was pretty clear that I just wanted to have my money refunded. (I may have also mentioned that I had a mind to make him pay for everything...)
Anyway, here was his reply that I just received
Email with ebay seller wrote
Matt , the problem is the regulator should have blown a field circuit way before it released the amperage to do this kind of damage even if the rotor was the issue. The field output amps and wire rating is only about 5 to 7 . Also from the pictures the rotor shows heavy rub damage . What came in contact to do that . glue, wire, ??? You have to have hard metal on metal contact to have rub damage. Did the old rotor or stator have any rub damage? It is easy to install a stator out of square. I have built rotors over 25 years and never seen one do this. The only time i have seen anything close to this . The rotor was rubbing the stator and the friction heat cause high heat and baked out everything. I ask because it is very easy to have a aftermarket stator not go into the cover square. I did not get a picture of the stator or your rotor prior to the damage . the stator shows to be burned as well . how did that happen. what electrical connection does the rotor have with the stator? there is not one. It is a field presents only . The pictures this says high heat above 400+ degrees. From the pictures it looks like friction. Now everything can't be seen in pictures but send me the stator , cover, rotor regulator as they are..i will inspect , wash, clean and measure everything and i will give you my opinion of what happened. I will even consult some other in the rebuild industry . I am just not going to accept guilt or take it that my product failed and did this. If it did i will make things good. If it did not i will still work with you some what but will not just accept full responsability. I am not saying any one is dishonest here .picture say something went wrong. But i really need to see everything in person before i move forward on how to handle this. use the prepaid label to send it to me and i will return pay the return shipping cost on any parts you have to have back like the cover . Considering this guy sells parts to strangers that he doesnt know, and his reputation is built on his skills PLUS the skills of the installler(NOT HIM),I would say that is fair.I would never gaurantee a furnace that i sold someone, but he installed it himself. At least hes willing to handle all the shipping to make it possible to get it all sorted out.Its a start. Most people wouldn't even do that.

Sounds reasonable to me, send the stuff to him and see what he comes up with.

Get more pictures, and have someone else in the know (Honda Dealer, Automotive electric specialist) look at it before sending. I really do not think friction caused that much heat.

Yeah, something definitely went hay-wire,but friction wouldnt account for all that,IMO.All that charring is from electrical "fire",arcing, whatever you want to call it.I agree with you ,Tools

I've seen some car coils put out lots of heat to melt inside cap wires ,totaly melt down the coil witch caused it ,and only replaced that and cap/wires.

Received my new rotor, stator, and cover. They are looking good and ready to go!
Shiny...
Also, sent in the following items for that guy to take a look at:
-My initial rotor that went bad
-The failed replacement rotor
-My stator and brush assembly
Even though I'm pretty sure I'm done riding this season, I'm still anxious to get the thing back together in working order.

Good deal,get 'er goin'!

So, it's been quite a while since my last post...
The weather's been getting warmer up here and I've been hearing the call of the open road. I have concluded that my whole rotor fiasco is a dead end that put me out a couple hundred $$.
So, next step fro me is to pick up a bunch of pine-sol and get to work on those carbs! While those are soaking away, the new rotor and stator will be going in (hopefully working much better than the previous combo).
Stay tuned folks, I'm back in it.

So, more build news!
I picked up a custom 750 seat off of craigslist for $85 today!
I love the look of the slim straight seat (which is hard to find for a dohc) as well as the cafe-ish bump in the rear. Also, it's a two-up. I had to come straight to work, but I can't wait to get home and see what it looks like mounted up!

Good deal on that seat. It looks nice. You need to change your user name to 3/4cafe after you get that seat on there.

Shiny: They are watching, you know Rich, I guess it kinda does look like I'm moving that way, huh? Half-Caf is just too catchy.
Maybe I could think of another coffee-ish name.
Lets see...
-I could paint it brown and call it "mocha" (too much work)
-I could add 2 tanks of nos and call it "double shot" (I have other worries before nos)
-I could get a red headlight lens and call it "red eye" (probably illegal and really dumb)
-I could do an american flag theme and call it "americano" (not that southern )
-I could use it for drug running and call it "doppio" (...)
Looks like I will have to do some more thinking about this...

Ok, I did a rough mount of the seat and here's what I found:
There is a rise in the fiberglass seat pan that matches that of the frame. However, the giant horizontal bracket that the fender attaches to comes up a good 2" beyond the frame. This prevents the seat from sitting flush and level. I just set it on the bike for the pics, but you will notice it's not level.
So, that leads me to my next course of action.. I am going to grab myself an angle grinder and chop off that rear bracket. I will then remount it so that it is flush with the frame.
I am also going to eliminate my rear fender and replace it with a piece of aluminum I will shape and attach to the frame. I don't think there will be any clearance issues with this, (the current plastic fender matches the contour of the tire) but if you disagree, let me know.
More to come, stay tuned!

I'm not sure what I am missing exactly, but I think it looks great in the picture.

YEH looks good glue it, by the way your braket is a bit like mine hold the rear brake bull
both sides off are the bolts that go thru (all the way a cross the frame)threaded enough ?Thats makes it 1 1/2 longer (?) just a Lil more info for your other post due to Picture..Sorry...

Ok, did a little hacking on my bike today!
Here's what things looked like at the beginning of the day:
And after I was done:
Of course I did a couple mock-up shots as well...
The seat sits perfectly level now and the rear also looks cleaner without the fender in the frame. I think the old fender will go up on craigslist. Also, let me know if any of you guys could use the metal bracket I cut off. I would happily ship it to you.
Next step for me is to do some aluminum work (my own custom fender).
Also, the very observant among you will notice that I finally got around to taking my carbs off. I will be breaking those guys down to soak tomorrow.
