And they are still down in a tube. I wonder if they could be switched with round tops?

I doubt, you will find something that small there. i wonder if a left hand drill type extractor will get them out.

I just checked out a set of those DOHC CV carbs, and if I were, you. I would take a dremel with a cut-off wheel, and cut those tubes off. At least a 1/4 inch. Then, you could get them out with pliers, and use a regular carb adjusting tool ($25.00 at Dime City).

Ok, time to provide a little clarity for slow jet issue. The parts I am trying to get to are actually inside a narrow passage in the carbs. This picture should help.

The brass slot for a standard screwdriver has been completely stripped because those puppies are in there tight! I was able to pick up a small screw extractor from the hardware store next to my job. I took a picture of it with a AAA (yes, triple) battery for size reference. As you can see its quite small.

I was hoping to work on this earlier today as well as putting some primer on my tank. However, absolutely nothing has gone according to plan today. I even forgot my wallet, but the guy at the hardware store told me I could come in and pay for the part tomorrow.
First thing that't gone well today!

As this is my first time using an extractor, I've got my fingers crossed hoping it will work.

Tools, looks like I will be needing those carb bodies after all. Not sure if you got it, but I sent you an email last night.
I only had limited success with the screw extractor. I was able to get the slow jet out of one more carb. However, I had no luck with the other one. Whoever put those things in apparently wanted to make sure they were really in there

In other news, my gas tank has continued to progress. Today I put a few coats of primer on it and things are looking good! Another coat went on the carb caps as well. Maybe its not entirely a bad thing that the carbs are a bit of a hold-up -this way I can get some painting done before I am too tempted to ride as is

I also need to do some body work with my seat pan and side covers. I have some ideas rattling around that I just need to make happen. I'm also thinking of painting my comstars and drilling out my discs. I'll have to search and see other's success with these.

And sorry, no photos this time. Will get some up when I get some stuff done!

Got the carb bodies mailed off today. I hope they are the right ones. I acquired a box of striped Honda CV carbs awhile back, and there are several different racks. However they all seem to have the same carb bodies. Just different spacing. There is a let broken off in one of the carbs. I hope it is not the one, you need. i thought about removing it, for, you, but then remembered, you have that new easyout. If it is the one, you need, just put some heat on it before trying to remove it. A lighter would get it plenty hot.

I hope they're the right ones too
Let me know where to send the $$ and I would be glad to do so.

In other news, I recently purchased a sweet looking taillight that should mount nicely up under the new seat. We'll see how it looks once I get it in.
I've got a busy week coming up but hopefully I'll be getting some things done on the bike.

On the SOHC it is a bolt on swap. However it would probably require changing the spacing on a DOHC, which would not be hard with the round top carb setup. I am going to have to go out, and do some measuring now.

Re: Half-Caf: my new '80 cb750f SS -tips appreciated!

Half-Caf
Howdy all!
So, it's been a while since I've gotten my new carb bodies. I've also bought some other things like all-new plug wires for this season. Note that I have custom coils, so these wires are not the norm.

I was hoping to get the bike all assembled and somewhat aesthetically pleasing last weekend, but my fam drove in from PA for a surprise visit  Needless to say, last weekend didn't exactly go as planned  I got back out to the garage last night and did a little more chopping on the bike (read: sawzall to the frame) The rear end is going to be 100% original -and I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out so far.
When my family told me they were coming out (an hour before they left) I asked them to bring out my jigsaw and some other tools I'd been wishing I had. I began some fabrication of my seatpan/inner fender combo and also made a spot where my new smoked tail light wil sit.

I did a mock-up or the new rear-end and it's looking pretty sweet. I'll put up a pic when it's all done. Also, my first coat of finish paint is on. It's darker than I expected, but I think I'll keep it. I will probably be adding another coat tonight before I go out of town for the weekend. Should I sand in-between coats?
More to come (including drilled rotors) soon.

Oh, I forgot to mention: the carb bodies Tools send me actually looked quite a bit nicer than my originals with a quick cleaning. Due to this fact and also because I wanted to block all my air-cuts anyway, I've decided that I am just going to do a complete carb rebuild. Yes, that includes un-racking the beast

Uh-oh.Prof Sees' ain't gonna like that!  Glad things are going your way. On the sanding between coats, its only needed when the paint has completely dried. If you are recoating days later then yes,re-sand.
