Ok, I finally have another update! Where to start...

First off, Half-Caf got some new forks!

As you can see, there are also some dual-piston calipers on there as well. With new pads

They will require a bit of motivation to work..

In other news, I've been slowly tearing down the new 900 bit by bit. I was finally able to remove the subtrans today and free the engine from the frame.
Here is what I'm left with now:

As you can tell, it looks pretty similar to a 750 (it's basically just a modified version) In fact, by looking at these pics, you will see the output shaft is the only difference between the transmissions.

750

Also, check out these diagrams from the FSM's

900

750

Look familiar?

Hopefully these similarities will make my life easier. Maybe things will be as easy as swapping the 750 trans guts in the 900 case.
I already purchased a full 900 gasket kit, so I will be doing a complete overhaul on the engine in the process.

I've also been purchasing quite a few goods while I've been laying low  You will definitely see these popping up soon as I put some more time into this build.

I love updates! Do you think you need to swap the tranny guts? The sprockets won't line up?Hold on...how much are you swapping? I thought you were gonna put the 900 crank and topend on your 750 block? I am easily confused...

Shiny, that was my original plan, but it would have required machining the 750 crankcase to make the 900 sleeves fit.
This way all I have to do is swap parts which is easier and cheaper..

Also, I will have a complete 750 engine in case I ever decide I want to build a shaft drive 750 bobber

Re: Half-Caf: my '80 cb750f SS cafe project

Another update! I got some presents in the mail today
First package was from Japan: a complete 900 engine gasket set.

Now I just need to get a buddy to help me drop that thing onto the little cart I have ready.

I also got a complete set of triple trees for my cbr forks. I was missing the clamping bolts, the stem nuts, and top tree, so it was cheaper for me to just buy a complete one.

Is it just me, or does my hand look huge in that pic?
Next step for the front end is to see if allballs can hook me up with some new tapered bearings.

Is that real carbon fiber?!?! If not, just say it is anyways.

Yes,you're hand looks huge. You could thumb wrestle like a BOSS!

Do you need conversion bearings,or just looking for a tapered replacement? If you cant find the bearings you need McMaster-Carr might have 'em

Yesiree! It was a pleasant surprise, too. I figured it was just some plastic stick-on nonsense that I would just remove. However I think I'll keep the CF (it adds a nice touch, no?).
Besides, I'm sure it greatly adds to the structural integrity of my triple trees

I put an inquiry in with allballs last night and got a response today:

Matt.
Both bikes take the same kit this is a direct swap. 22-1020 is you answer. Thanks Alex G
This is good news! I guess that's what I get for sticking with honda. I went ahead and placed an order for the bearings as well as some new fork seals for the cbr front end.

It's off a 94 CBR600F2. All the F2 front ends are the same (I think they ran 90-94).
I wouldn't consider it a "golden solution" just yet, though; I'm still waiting to see if the stem length will work out (fingers crossed!)

Once I get those tapered bearings in I'll mock it up and see how it looks.
