I put a gel cell in mine. Seems to be holding up ok.  Before that I had replace the battery twice. The water type don't hold water to long so you need to check it often. Like once a week. And they should be setting level when changing.

That seems like a really healthy charging system! Maybe your battery just needs a good long trickle charge. These batteries are so little, they just dont have much capacity to hold a charge for a long time. It sounds like a battery tender might be all you need. I use one I got from Harbor Freight years ago and it does great. I think they are under $20. Mine is probably close to 7 or 8 years old now,so they are not bad quality.

Well I passed my permit test at the DMV.

But I was trying to get the headlight to work and realized that there is supposed to be a 3prong headlight socket. Well one broke off in the socket and melted. I cannot get it out at all. Anyone know where to buy one or a way to fix it.  I was thinking of just getting female spade connectors if I cannot find a headlight socket. Any Ideas.

Any three prong (older) headlight plug should work.

They are the same sockets used on cars and trucks. Your local auto parts store will have one. Walmart stocks them too.

I couldnt find them at walmart, but luckily advance was open until 10 so I stopped there. It was $13 for 2. Heres a link except its at autozone and not advance.

Right on! I was concerned because there are two models available and I forgot to mention that. Same socket, but one is for halogens and the other is a lighter duty socket made for the older vehicles with incandescent bulbs. You got the good ones

Okay. the bike seems to be starting alot easier since I've been able to ride the bike for longer than around the block.

But the bike seems to be surging in neutral. It goes up to around 3200rpm. Whats the problem?

im going to try and seafoam it tonight. My buddy wants to ride to oshkoah plane show next week and i want to give it a complete tune up. Which will include need plug, whats the gap supposed to be?? also its going to need a new chain. Whats the specs? Amy good ones that I should buy or not buy.

Also I'm getting some kinda popping sound throughout the rpm's. From idle on up. What do I need to look for or address. Thanks for any input.

The popping and the surging are most likely related, but not definite. It could be a vacuum leak. Spray some carb cleaner around your carb boots and see if it raises the rpm's. If it does you found your leak.

EK seems to be one of the best chains for the money. I'd have to check the FSM for the plug gap.

If you get a NGK plug it will be pre-gapped. But it never hurts to check. .o28 sounds about right

Yep. Just ordered the spark plugs and the oil filter since no one stocks it around here. I'll try the carb cleaner after work tomorrow and see if it helps any. If it's not it what else could it be?

Good question! Possibly ignition related? Let's just hope that if it becomes to involved someone more intelligent chimes in.

Any takers?.....

Could it be that the carbs might just be out of sync.?

WHOA!!!  Do NOT spray carb cleaner near the boots, unless it says it is safe for rubber and plastic.  Maybe I'm wrong, but some carb cleaner chemicals will eat rubber.  Instead, try WD40 spray, as it won't harm rubber, or plastic bits.  Best of luck!  Cheers!

Sarge, you are right. Most all carb cleaners can eat up rubber pretty bad. And damage paint, too. I should have said that. I will admit,I lightly mist carb cleaner when looking for vacuum leaks myself. It is a small amount and has never caused me any issue, but i really should not have told someone else to do that.

Thanks for keeping an eye out. Dont stop!

I just ordered the vacuum gauges from ebay. Ill prob just pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning and see if it helps. I dont know If this bike was sitting or not, so ill give that a shot and see if the jet sizes have been changed or not.

I got the sync kit and after I got back from WI I decided to pull the carbs and try to fix the issue.

The bowls had a little dust in them. after removing the jets they appeared to all be clean. The thing that wasnt clean was the port where one of the jets sits that is in a part that has holes through it. Sorry for not knowing the names of these parts. but the part that was gunked was a 7mm to remove. Does anyone think that I should rebuild the carbs or just clean them out?

EDIT: I guess the part gunked up is called the emulation tube. Also the 2 jets that I took out where numbered 68 and 102.

Yep,emulsifier tube. If that part was gunked up its a good chance the carbs could use a good cleaning. But if its running good you could always put it off til winter time. But if it stops and leaves you roadside...it wasnt my idea!
