Hey, that 14mm MC you got. Check this out. I dont know what size/ how many rear pistons you brake setup will have, but this can help make sense of the proper sizing. Might save you a few bucks and some downtime if you end up needing another size mc.

I use the green florists foam when I make seats. Never had a problem with the fiberglass resin melting it. However that is what they make "Bondo" for.

Had to travel this week for work and I have a busy weekend so there's not much progress to report.  The last couple of weeks I've been slowly working on the seat pan and tank. The tank was covered in bondo to hide a few dents and the badge mounts. Thinking about having a professional redo it.

Thanks I sure hope so!

I got the last of the welding finished today.  The frame is about ready to be primed.

I decided to have the tank, seat, and maybe a few other parts (fender and headlight bucket) painted professionally.  I dropped the tank off today and need to do a little more work on the seat before it goes. I was going to paint it myself but since it's June already I need to pick up the pace. Beside I'm sure he'll do a better job much faster than I.

I'm ready to finish this thing up!

Got a couple of coats of primer on the frame between yesterday and today.

Paint shop has the tank. I'm about ready to drop off the seat pan, headlight bucket, and front fender. I was on the fence about using a fender but I did a good job cutting it down. I think it will look good. Headlight bucket had some nicks and scratches. It's all fixed up an ready for paint now too.

Can't wait to see these parts all painted up nice.

Hi, i'm new here (was looking for some cb750 engine rebuilt info actually) and am workingon a simmilar project. A 1980 cb750 dohc caferacer build. I also had the advice NOT to put on open airpods, but I die iT anyway. I did change the head nozzles (believe thats the word in English) of the carbs and iT runs prettygood actually, even though I was planning on getting my bike on a testing bench, which I still might do when I am totallyfinished. Could you explainme how you got the engine out of the frame, the correct way???
God luck with the rest of your project, i'll stay tuned....

Re: 1980 CB750K Cafe Project (hopefully)

I can't explain taking the engine out better than the shop manuel. This is the first time I had done it and that's how I figured it out. In short you put it on the center stand, remove the chain sprocket cover, sprocket, and chain. After the carbs, and airbox are out, you disconnect the odometer cable, generator plug, and anything else that's still connected. Then with a jack under the engine you can remove all motor mounts, nuts and bolts. From there I was able to lift it out the right side after a few tries. I had to remove the jack and tilt the engine pretty far to the left side the bottom would come over the frame. Now that I have it apart it looks like the bottom frame rail comes apart. Doing that would have been easier but I didn't notice and I don't think the manual said to do that. You can download the manual from the home page. There is a post with tech manuals I just look for the link that out year.

I would suggest two people lifting it out. I did it myself but I'm tall with long arms so was able to wrap my arms around it from above. I should have been gotten help though, I was just impatient.

Welcome to the forum, you'll find great advice here from some real experts. Best of luck to you!

I just put a floor jack under the engine, remove the section of frame rail, and roll the jack with the engine on it out the right side. The DOHC bikes are so easy to remove/replace the engines that I do these all by myself.

Did a lot of prepping and priming this weekend. Sending all of the previously mentioned parts to the painter tomorrow. Although I may paint the headlight bracket myself. I put some rust treatment in the inside.  I may put rubber undercoating on it like I did with the fender.

The seat is coming out nicely.

Make sure you pick a size, it fails on me too if I don't pick a size. You could also reply through email and it will show as an attachment instead of being embedded.

I don't know why iT did work this time.... Maybe because i used à lower quality photo. Anyway, i hope you can see the power filters! I think iT looks so much  better then the original. And like i said,it runs quite good even though i onlychanged the nozzles.

Looks great, love the pin stripe connecting it all together.

I've heard you can get most of the way there with pods by swapping out the jets. Glad it's running well for you, nicely done.

There are two dual carb setups on the market for our bike. I'm probably going with one of those and ditching the old CVs myself.

Re: 1980 CB750K Cafe Project (hopefully)

Thanks, I like the pinstripe too ;-) but not only for the reason u
mentioned, but because this way, the "strange" shape of the bottom end
of the gastank (I rather wanted a 1978 bike for that matter) doesn't
show since under the pinstripe it blends in with the frame.
Oh and you're probably right that the word is jet instead of nozzle.
PLease let me know how your setup will perform...
I am going to take apart my engine this week or next, so I might have
to ask some stuff later on ;-)
Good luck on the project!

First coat if paint is on the frame and headlight bracket also painted the top triple tree clamp.

It's hard to see how good it looks in pictures. I took some close ups so you could see better. That rear loop looks seamless.
