I was thinking plasma cutter That Tracy tank is made, for a CB 750. Somewhere on here I have pictures of it on my buddies bike. I just can't find them. For the oil tank, I would box in the three backbone tubes, and make that the tank. Having the oil, and gas share the same tank is a cool idea, but could, you imagine how hot your crotch would get? Also just think about heating up all that gas. I thought. you wanted the gas as cool as, you could get it to make it denser, for more power.

Yeah, the dual tank is cool. But more for show than anything else. I don't really care if the oil tank shows, so long as the Electrics are hidden.

I just can't get my head around what you are saying on the three backbones???

That is very nice. But moving the oil into the fuel tank area lifts that weight even higher. These bikes are already top heavy, that is one reason I was considering running the oil thru the swingarm.

Piute, run that by me again what you said about the rear fender? I think i got what you are saying but not sure.

Tools,I finally got what you meant on the 3 back bones. I thinkBut they just got whacked. The XR seat is only 5 1/2'' wide at the front. The width of the factory cradles were just too wide. And I didn't want it to mount above the tubes. More fabbing is always OK by me,plus I get to tie into the backbone better this way.

Gunslinger, what are your opinions on the tanks?

I think I would keep the oil tank separate. Although splitting the gas tank is interesting.

I agree.Oil tank separate is better.

Bent up some Too-bing today.Get it? Too-bing...from Too-ls?...ah,nevermind. Got the frame where any width tank will work now and I have a ton of open space under the tank for electrics which would allow the battery to be the only thing under the tail. Think the battery cable will cause problems being that long? Next thing I need to do is decide if/how to reinstall the upper cradle legs/outer backbones. Suggestions please!

Yes,every joint got slugged.

Rigged in some scarp metal to make sure the backbone did not move while everything got cut apart.

Quick comparison of the frames

Very cool! Thanks bud!

I mounted the Yamaha tank tonight. It may end up coming back off,but I really like this tank. Still interested in that Tracy,though...

I learned on mounting my last tank how hard it is to get each peg just right when doing the front mounts. I got smart and made it easy on myself this time. I drilled thru the backbone and drove a single peg thru.Presto! Both sides match!

Expandable rubber freeze plugs fit perfect to replace the tank bushings I didnt have

Does the angle look right to you guys? The 'YAMAHA' deal seems to be running downhill towards the back, but the bottom edge seems ok?

Thanks Slow. It still looks crooked to me.

I just found out that this tank came off a late 70's yamaha xs tripleI had no idea. I got this off a guy at a flea market for $20. He said it came off what he thought was a Virago. He did mention it was a 3 cylinder, but when I heard Virago I passed on the bike. It was running, titled, tagged, insured and his daily bike. The backbone cracked and he was parting it out. The tank was the first piece to go and the bike was complete. He wanted $250 for itArgh! I shoulda looked into it!!

Piddled on the seat some tonight.I decided it needed an inner structure rather than letting the fiberglass support my fat butt. Used some 5/16'' steel rod I have left over from making throttle linkages and the remainder of the sign I cut up for my tail fairing on the other bike.

Where this seat is too narrow for the tank I think I will just flare out the front of the seat to match. Which means I will have to either pick Piute's brain or possibly hire his services

I am getting close to fabbing up some foot pegs. I have zero ideas at all on this. Suggestions? Hit me...

Aluminum spacers to protect the fiberglass from the tack welds and also to space it out correctly for when the seat pan goes in.
