Hey, I'm full of ideas but short on tools and money for parts, lol. If you run those mufflers on a true dual exhaust it will sound different than it would off of a Y pipe. I've seen a lot of guys online just take those mufflers and cut a length off of the end of the muffler and replace the cover, they call it stubbying a muffler.

This will make the muffler louder for cheap, plus then it will make you feel better cause it will be custom

whaaaaaaaaaa!???? Man thats a great deal! Oh and I also need you to bend a piece of tubing for me an THEN ill send the curtain
I'll try my best on the tubing, but the stuff I got is not cheap. I need to find a cheaper source. The stuff i used is actually 4340 CM roll cage tubing. 5" of it shipped is $50!

Thanks for the vid H-B. Thats looks like a good idea,if only I could get my mufflers apart. I can't get the sleeve off.But I haven't had time to fool with it much either.

Piute, the whole street fighter look can be pretty crazy with those up-turned tail fairings. I dont want my bike to look like a hornet in flight. Not sure what to call this thing really,as far as style goes. The muscle car guys have a style they call Pro-Touring. Take a muscle car, leave the looks stock(except modern wheels and rubber),upgrade the suspension and brake systems with as many modern components as possible and always...more power! Pro-Touring is kinda like Pro Street except the car actually has decent handling and street manners. Whatever that is called in the realm of motorcycles is what I am shooting for.

No problem, while you're in those mufflers you can always change the packing if you think they are way too quite, but I think if it comes down to that then you might as well buy some glasspacks and call it good

Lol, yes I do! But also they are usually smaller outside diameter than most mufflers so it would give you more options for mounting locations

Piute, those pipes are very close to what I am thinking about now,as far as mounting.Maybe not that high, though.

I got the rear suspension all finished tonight. It's not burned it permanent yet in case I need to move a tube for any unforeseen clearance issues, but I think it'll be OK. I got the hoop for the upper shock mount tied into the main backbone just like I wanted it. Now to start on the rear sub frame. I dont know if I want to make it removable or not. If I use aluminum like I originally planned it will definitely be removable, but not sure if all that is necessary or not. I could really use a brainstorm right now,but it just ain't happenin'.

Re: '78K Resto-Mod...name to come later

Hellbilly429
Are you talking about needing a brainstorm for like the part of the frame where the seat mounts to it? Cause if it were my bike that had all that done to it I would be putting a solo bobber seat on it, but I would mount it solid since you don't need springs because the bike will still be a soft-tail. Then maybe run the pipes right up behind the seat, but put a heat shield around that area of the pipes for looks and to keep from burning your ass, lol.

Maybe heat shields like this would look sick and more true to the era of the bike. And if they get too hot, just heat wrap the pipe that's under the heat shield.

Not sure if this was what you were after when you said you need brainstorming, but your bike definately get's my imagination going

H'Billy, any and all ideas, please. The bobber seat would be killer since the actual frame of the bike is so short now.It would really make it look even more stretched out like that. Great idea! I was thinking about putting the battery and electrics in the tail fairing. So that would have to be relocated somewhere. I also still need to hide an oil tank. I considered using parts of the frame for the oil tank, but between cleanliness issues and not wanting my frame to scald my tender inner thighs,i decided against that. I'm thinking about dropping the seating area down a couple inches, too. The seat, electrics, battery & exhaust all have to be figured out before I put up the next piece. I guess I really need to either just start cutting metal,or learn how to use photoshop.

The orange Yamaha in this video.I love the tail fairing on that bike. Old school sporty. It is tall, but still looks ok.I think I could make a hollow one and hide my junk in it ok.But i suck at fiberglass. It requires patience.

   Hey, Shiny Chrome Guy
Get some of that blue (closed cell )insulation foam, glue enough blocks together to get the height and width ,carve out what you wont ,use files ,1.5"/ 2" drum sander would easily sand to shape I think you wont,
Once you get what you wont, send it to me and I'll glass it for ya ,hide some steal in it fo mounting,
No charge to you ,IT will be a shell,I'm still smiling about these baggs I got,
That foam can be got at 2" thickness but not sure were,1" at Lowe's, The peace that is 1st made is the mold,"O" you get the cowl I get the mold ,since you don't wont to mess with glass

I have 4" side pipe grill's never put on my Elc.,can get pic,if ya wont them (get me a length)

If you made it so those bones can be changed (like new bike's have)then you can mod the way it sets and not stuck to same stance.

You're right about the bones,Piute.I know they make lowering bones, not sure about raising it,though. I think it will sit OK.I have it sitting up just a touch above stock right now. I wanted extra clearance under the frame for the pipes. It should be up about 1" above stock.Another reason for wanting to drop the seat a little.

So y'all are all thinking solo bobber style seat rather than a full rear cowl, huh? Might do that.I do like the short look it ended up with. Just gotta have somewhere to hide the essentials.I know I could dummy off one side of the tank, but I like to ride and dont wanna kill the fuel capacity.

Slow, you know if i decide to go bobber at this point I would have to rock some spokes on it. That could backfire for you

Piute, thanks for the offer on the 'glass. If I go 'glass I will definitely be getting your help on that. We'll work something out.I know how expensive resin is.Besides,it's just alot of work! Thanks bud

Re: '78K Resto-Mod...name to come later

Hellbilly429
I hear your space concerns and problems, and I have a solution. Something tells me you're not the kind of guy that's worried about plugging a bunch of things into his bike while riding it, and my memory could be wrong but you said it has a kick start, right?

Solution= Battery Eliminator. Not just any battery eliminator, a more heavy duty one from these guys.
http://oregonmotorcycleparts.com/BEC.html
And it's only $45.50. I think the bike would just look nasty if you went with a solo bobber seat and no tail fairing, plus then you don't have to worry about screwing up a beautiful fairing if you bottom out hard like you did on the other bike

As for the oil tank, I think you could definately get away with putting it under the seat, and if you're worried about that getting toasty you could always put a cooler on it.
