After that I moved onto the engine covers. Notice how every pic of my engine they are missing? That's because they were getting sanded and prepped for polishing. Finally hit them with the corse compound tonight, turning out pretty nice but very time comsuming. Next comes the fine compound and they should be ready to bolt on.

Nice, those look like the heavy guage aluminum covers.

Well here we are...

Initial impression is it's very comfy on my bum, but the rearsets feel too high at the stock passenger peg location. First bike with rearsets so maybe that's why but when I moved my feet down to about where the stock peg height would be and it feels much better. I might try puting the stockers back on and see what it's like. Kinda glad I didn't cut anything there yet.
Now back to those engine covers and start on the front brakes.

Interesting. I find that stock position makes my legs feel all bound up with my drag bars.

I put my feet on the passenger pegs during long rides and it feels so much better. I also have the stock seat though and it sits higher than you seat.

The more I sit on it the better it feels. I think the twisting of the throttle and making "Vrooom,  VROOOOM" noises are helping.

Just set a fan in front of the bike on high and your all set.  I am loving the way that bike looks.

Fathers Day allowed me some undisturbed time in the shop. Slipped the mufflers off and trimmed the mounting tabs then reinstalled and tightened everything up. I dug out my gaskets and got all the engines side covers on. I did discover the PO had removed the oil pump cover, bolts were only snug, and tore that gasket so I will need to pick up one of those. Glad I checked!

Next started cleaning up the front brakes. Disassembled one caliper and when I sprayed the parts down with the brake cleaner, so much of the original black paint came off, it's a no brainer to strip off the rest.

Front brakes are done. Calipers disassembled, stripped, reassembled, lubed the slides and installed.

The Master cylinder looked and performed well, bled the system with a fluid flush. All I had to do  was clean it up and strip the cap then polished it's edges.

Thanks Cabreco, getting anxious to hear it run. Not much picture worthy this week, spending most of my time sorting all the electrical bits that are left, cleaning all of their connections and fabbing a tail lamp mount. I did blast and paint the battery box before mounting it.

Wireing, wireing, wireing... cleaning every single connector and trying to route all the harness to keep it out of sight. Had to make up a tail / rear turn sub-harness out of an old section of a donor harness from the GoldWing spares...
Last night I made up some ignition wires. The bike came with a set of Dyna Coils that after some meter readings I determined were good, problem was the wires. Measured infinate resistance and when I pulled them apart I found why...
When the PO made this set he obviously didn't understand what is the conductor. He crimped the fiberglass strain relief in the terminal instead of the carbon core. Plus he had the coil side terminals on backwards so the tabs barley went in enough to make contact

A trip to the local Auto Parts store yielded a single Accel 8mm replacement wire that was 60" long. I disassembled the FUBAR wires that came with the bike and scavenged the terminal ends. Then cut the single long wire to length and made up a set of 4. With the Dyna coils, 8mm wires and NGK irideum plugs, this ought to light a fire under my ass.
Oh, and they are red to boot! Here is the final outcome...

Hooter, I swear to J@#$%, I looked down below my throtle today and found a clip connector that had come undone at some point.  There are two side by side under the throtle and I'm wondering if that's why my headlight went out 2 years ago??  I could spend a month working out the wiring.  ;)

Hey Hooser, that wouldn't happen to be a left side cover you had a pick of earlyer would it (cb900)? If so how much would you want for it?

And the bike looks bada$$! Keep up the good work.
It's only illegal if you get caught.

If at first you don't succeed, use more lighter fluid

95% of Harley Davidsons ever made are still on the road... The other 5% made it home.

Sorry Pal, it's the right side (when seated on the bike)

Local Honda Dealer helped me locate my elusive oil pump cover gasket. Every place I checked online showed "discontinued" but there was a Dealership in a neighboring town who showed they still had one, A phone call and sure enough the parts gal laid her hands on it and now it on it's way!
decided to celebrate and e-bayed the 8200# Tensile stength 530 o-ring chain I been watching and made a $50 "best offer" on a ETX15L AGM battery that has 220CCA, Lets see if my luck holds out.
In all honesty, I am thinking these are the last bits I need to finish this bike. Wouldn't that be AWESOME!

Re: '81 CB750C "Rock-It"

This post was updated on .
This weeks "Bike Night" aftermath consisted of finally getting my grubby hands on a new gasket for the oil pump  / cover. I had been watching e-bay and searching out vendors websights for lt to find it was not available. When I went to my local dealership, the parts godess ran a trace and found another dealer close by showed one in stock. I called, verified they had it on hand, and ordered it within minutes of walking out of the dealership. Thank you Mr. Carlos Gomez whoever you are for never picking up your special ordered part!
Last night it and my new chain arrive so I spent the evening out in the shop installing them. Odd note to any readers. Everything I had read said my 81 CB750C used a 530 X 106 link chain, even the seller on e-bay had it listed for my application. But when I got it fitted it was too long. I had the adjusters all the way back and it was still slack. Moving the adjusters back towards the front, I verified I could cut an entire link out and once that was done I fitted it back together it lines up smack dab perfect with plenty of adjustment on either side. Somehow mine is a 530 X 104 (!)

I am constantly going back over things in my mind and giving it a good check-over front to back, but so far a battery and some oil are the only things left on my needed parts list and I should be ready to fire this Baby up!
