Re: My 1981 Honda CB750K Project Bike

Hellbilly429
So today is my birthday, I am an old man now being 22 and all... My dad came over and helped me re-test my stator and rotor to make sure I didn't overlook something or do something wrong, and according to the Clymer manual they are both in good shape and test good, so basically I am praying that since the regulator/rectifier was all that was bad, and that I just got a bad replacement part.

Once I have the money I plan on trying to buy that heavy duty regulator/rectifier from Oregon bike place or whatever it was from that thread on this site had for that heavy duty one that is bigger and beefier and has lifetime warranty on it.

Got more painting done on the dirtbike tho, hehe, got flames on both sides of the tank and fenders got their last coat of paint, and engine got it's last coat of paint and I already had started polishing the valve-cover and rest of the motor and tranny casing  Needless to say I will probably cry if anyone lays it down, ha!

Thanks Piute!

I will post up some pictures later of the dirtbike, flames came out kindy shitty since I only have spray-paint, but they are pretty good considering I used paper for my stencils.

Got ahold of a thread-chaser for the #3 cylinder on the CB, plug has always given me issues going in and out and I am not sure if it is even setting all the way down like it should, so while I am waiting on my refund for the regulator/rectifier that will give me something to do on the big bike.

Odd that you say that.My number 3 plug threads in kinda funky, too.

Do you have a way to chase those threads and keep the junk outta the motor?

Re: My 1981 Honda CB750K Project Bike

Yep, I pulled the plug and turned the crank by hand while putting air into the muffler with my compressor until air came through the hole, then kept pushing the air in while I put the chaser down into the hole and back out. Then I put the plug back in with di-electric grease on the threads, pulled it back out and it picked up the rest of the crap that was on the threads. I repeated these steps 1 more time, put the plug back in, pulled all the other plugs out and cleaned them up while I was at it and the biked fired right up and once warm ran like an f-in champ.
I have no idea what plugs your bike runs but the NGK D8EA threads are M12X1.25. I've got good connections at Autozone and the manager let me just borrow the right size thread chaser without having to buy one or rent their whole kit for $90, I just have to remember to bring it back tomorrow...
Hope I remember...

Dang. That was a good idea! Glad I asked!  My bike uses the same plugs. I have the iridiums in mine now.To be honest I wasn't impressed. It actually started idling rough when they went in. When I saw that I dug my old NKG's ( like yours) out of the trash and shelved them. When I get new wires I'll put the standards back in. Waste of time and money in my opinion.

That's weird, most everyone else is swearing by those iridium plugs... but yeah, that's how I was taught to do heli-coil kits as well if you ever totally screw up the threads on one of those plugs.

I almost forgot to post pics of the Dirtbike!

OH,and the plugs? I put them in at Chunky's house when they came in.I was so happy to get them I didnt want to wait til the next day to experience their foretold greatness. Put 'em in,started it and Chunky was like "Did you leave a plug wire off?" Yeah,it was that noticeable. Stuff never works right for me. Fuel mileage is the same, too.I do have to admit that power around 1500-2500 rpm may be a bit smoother, but thats about it. For 8 bucks a pop I'll never have another set.

Ha, these flames were such a pain to do with spray-paint! I am getting an air-brush soon though so you guys should be seeing some artwork coming out soon, and eventually will be doing the whole bike up probably over the winter, we're talking skulls and flames baby, doing it Hellbilly style!
Will have to come down and bug ya sometime in VA tho bud, maybe I'll be taking a trip down there for vacation in future

If, you didn't have that fancy electronic ignition in that bike, you would not be bad mouthing those iridium plugs! You would be writing songs of praise to them!!!

Fancy electronic ignition huh? I will just stick with the cheapy plugs for now because as I have said before, I am broke! Bike runs pretty good with the plain-jane plugs anyways, just wish I could ride it! Front forks are with my dad right now and I am still waiting on that damn refund for my R/R.... Man I hate being impatient...

And again with the Yankee comment, I guess I will never understand why southern people use it so much, not like it hurts my feelings so I guess it just confuses me

It's all good shiny, gotta give you a hard time about it though cause that's what I do, lol, plus like I said I just don't get it. And yeah, I live in good ol' NY, the land of the taxed to death, lol, doesn't mean I can't hunt and fish and have camo, flames and skulls on everything I own.
