Question:what are three screws on the stator cover holding?Havent pulled my cover off for fear of ripping a gasket, plus no need to go in there.I would like to replace them with stainless allen heads, but dont know how long or if something will fall if i remove them.Googled some pics and seems like nothing is back there.Whats up?

They hold the field coil to the case. Remove, and replace them one at a time, and, you will be OK.

Tools is an instigator.Benn polishing today because of him.Long time since i did that.Cleaned up the caps for the forks, literally only took 5 minutes per cap,and my speedo drive.I got this one working and freed up so i'm good now,Piute. My retainer was all rusty and crusty so i just painted it black.Oh,polished(kinda) my rotor, too

I think the polished speedo drive looks good against the black. If only i could get to that hub and polish it

Yeah, the little breather cover that sits in the center of the valve cover. The longest ,front bolt, head snapped off.I figured id just screw it out once o slipped the valve cover past....nope!It was froze to the cover it self(why it wouldn't turn)i when i went to pry it off it snapped.Just snapped part of the bolt boss off.It will still seal, just looks like poo

You are right Piute.Polished aluminum looks much better then tinny chrome

Guess I will have to throw a cover in with the tank That screw, you took out is supposed to be oily. Put some sealer on the new ones when, you put them in.

I was real happy with my silver motor until today.Saw how easy it is to get a good polish.Think i might do the side covers now.Gotta week or more of down time until tank gets here. Can't progress on frame so i'll make use of the time elsewhere.Gotta work on the bike,tv sux and race car is still healthy.Cant sit still.you know the saying about idle hands....Get this stuff clear powdercoated and it will be permanent
