have you looked at the price of those chain tensioners online? holy cow, they anywhere from $90 and up. I would say put one on it but unless you can fab one or just have one kicking around I would say let the bitch slap, lol.

Find an old skate board wheel, and mount it there.

I was thinking about asking if anyone had an old cam chain tensioner to use there. You know its good for the rpm's.
Hellbilly,my back window ain't nothing crazy. It's the comment he made that cracked me up when he saw it:" I cant see the kitten, but I can hear it breathing!" I love these old timers who just say whatever they want! I cant find a pic of it,but you can see it on the first page of the hackjob thread.
I got issues with my rear suspension,or whatever you would call it. I thought the rear fender was tweaked causing it to run close to the tire on the right side. Turns out, everything is all outta whack. PO had this non-stock spacer on the right side. You can see how the axle flange is cocked
It doesnt look that extreme but the wheel is way off. I measured from the dropped center of the rim,to the edges of the plunger towers and it shows 1 1/4'' to the right from center.
If I align the flanges by themselves they measure 8 1/2''- 8 9/16''. They kinda wiggle around some. That stuff aint super solid in those springs.
Measuring from the center of the honda hub to the left edge of the wheel, where it rides against the chain adjuster I get 4 1/2''. According to that it seems that flange needs to be moved out 1/4''. I havent checked the chain alignment very accurately yet,but I am pretty sure that 1/4'' is needed for chain alignment anyway.
The stock setup on a Hinda drum hub, with all stock spacers and chain adjusters comes in at 9 1/4''. I measured one I had laying around.
I can space the hub with 2 washers i found to get 8 1/2'' no problem and pop it between the flanges, but the wheel is still too far to the right.
So now Im lost and on the hunt for info. Do I have the wrong axle flanges in the plungers? Was it originally setup for another hub( Harley maybe?) Or do I just break out the welder and fix this junk right? This sux.

I'm sure some creative spacing will get, you there. Line up the sprocket. Then move the wheel by adjusting the spokes.

I think creative spacing on this will require plasma cutter and a MIG. Wonder if I should call Red and see what he knows. Hate to bother him,but would be glad to pay him for his time. I did nothing but measure for 3 hours tonight. Either it's all jacked up,or I am. Could easily go either way at this point...if i go to adjusting the spokes I gar-on-tee it'll be jacked then.lol

Alright, lots changed today. Pulled lined and verified that the front wheel and back bone ARE inline and straight. Made up all new spacer for the rear wheel. As of now,the rear wheel is still 1/8'' too far right. I cannot move it left any further. Unless I modify the left plunger axle flange. With the rear wheel being off center to the engine 1/8'' it obviously throws off chain alignment. I shimmed the sprocket off the cush drive with 1/8'' washers. Not saying this is primo, just that I did. You can turn the tire all day long and the chain stays centered just right on the sprockets. You can see on the old sprocket where the chain was dragging on the inside edge.
But the plungers are still whack! The left side plunger tower is 1'' further from the wheel than the right side. The string hanging is an illusion of the camera lens. It looks way off at this angle. But you can see how jacked up the rear fender is.Thats gonna take some moving that I'm afraid will bust the molding loose. We'll just have to see.
I was wondering if they did this on purpose for chain clearance since this frame WAS intended for a CB750. But when you eyeball down the backbone,it looks fine. Strange. When measuring off the centerline string I had setup I get the same 1'' offset on the plungers.
As of now:
Front rim and backbone are straight and inline-rear rim is 1/8'' to the right
Chain alignment is spot on
Engine IS centered in the frame
With frame level-engine and both rims are level and true
Rims are running straight and inline, just offset 1/8''
Axles are parallel to each other.
As far as cush drive issues. The engine serial is 110373 and the output shaft is still the early style with a chain oiler. All that calls for an early 69-76 cush drive, which I am using.
What do you think? Rock it as-is?Wheel off 1/8'' and a shimmed sprocket? I'm so flipping confused at this point.

You know there is no written, or unwritten law that states, you must use the factory spacers. So again I will say. Line up the sprockets, then if the wheel is off, adjust it by adjusting the spokes. I will even quote Red "as long as the sprockets are lined up, and the wheel is centered, nothing else matters." So cut the spacer on the left side down an 1/8 inch.

I cant.Like I said before,I cant move the wheel any further left. I cut the left side spacer down so far that the bearing retainer nearly touches the chain adjuster. I can fit a couple sheets of newspaper in between there, but thats all. The ONLY way I can move this wheel any further left is the modify the plunger flange.
1- I can cut the ear off the flange and reweld it 1/8'' to the left
2- It's 3/8'' thick. I can have a channel milled in the flange 1/8'' thick that would allow the chain adjuster to sit inside the flange, rather than out side of it
If i don't modify the plunger flange the only other thing I could do is shave the hub and retainer down 1/8'',but I'm not doing that.
I cant go left anymore. My left side spacer protrudes 1/16'' out of the hub, or less. If I were to actually measure it,probably more like 0.030-0.040''.My right side spacer is just two 20mm id washers
Those are my only options.
Any ideas on the offset plunger towers?

PO's non-stock right side spacer and crooked flange to go with it
My non-stock right side spacer
PO's stock left side spacer on top. My previously stock, now non-stock,left side spacer on bottom.
I did try,but the laws of physics are against me. C'mon man. You oughta know by now I can think outside the box. I have built a couple of things before. And I'm not talking birdhouses either

As TOOLs said " " and like your drag car so long as the tracking is straight it should handle o.k.,would an of set sprocket help if needed in there ,possibly had a wide tire on at 1 time and all wasn't changed back ,p.o. to last p.o..
Looks good there Bud I think you have your HackJob mixed with yo birdhouse build

The tire wasn't real wide on here. Just a 130. But how it was set up everything was in a bind. The plunger flanges like I mentioned before. The brake stay rod was in a hard bend to line up and so was the brake linkage. Only offset sprockets I've seen are 10mm, or roughly 3/8". Good idea bud, but I'm not off that far.

Turn the flanges around, or swap them side, for side. That would give you miles of room, for spacing.

I fell stupid asking but I gotta understand why he would say that about your back window?

Thought about that. Would need to make or find a 5" longer axle and produce some crazy long slavers. All doable, but I thought it might look goofy with the ears turned inside out
|
|
You will not get adjustment by adjusting the spokes.
What about this.... Those axle plates are very thick. What about milling
1/8 off of the inside that right side axle holder plate?
You now this all takes time but it should have been done long ago
when the bike was first constructed. It is not your fault.

Dang,Lucky. Why didn't I think of that... The wheel runs true so I'm not gonna mess with the spokes. I'm just gonna rock it with the 1/8'' off. Doubt I'll ever notice it.These plunger wiggle around half that amount anyway.Cool looking setup, but not really alot of rocket science went in to the actual production of it,you know.
BTW-eat your heart out....

nice dude, is it actually at your place yet or is that just a pic Pat sent you of the lever?
Now if you're gonna have stuff like that on the bike, I think you should paint the bike black and do some gold leafing on it, would look awesome
