I now have the side covers in primer, ready to be blocked out. This was the most work of the project, so far.

Just dropped off the tank, seat, and side covers off at the painters, so should have them back next weekend.
Got the frame, and engine painted. Now to install my polished stainless Allen head bolts.

Man, that seat didnt fit worth a shit did it? What year was that thing even made for!? Hell for the price hes asking for those seats you'd think theyd fit right on no problem...I guess not? It looks killer now though!!! Keep it up I wanna see the buffet racer in action!

Didn't I get that seat from you? It was supposed to be for a 77-78 K, however the A has the same frame. The only difference is the battery box, and the side cover mounts.

Love that blacked out motor Tools, do you paint the motors yourself or do you send them out to paint too?

Yea you did, but I thought it wouldve fit the SOHC frames better than that? It didnt fit my bike at all and from what his website says it was made for the SOHC....are the F frames different? Regardless that thing looks awesome now!

Ive got a new job sitting in front of a computer all day  so I expect at least 5 pages of updates on the buffet racer so i can entertain myself at work.....now hop to it!

I painted the engine myself. Even did it in the frame. I cleaned it with mineral spirits, by putting it in a spray bottle, and spraying it on the greasy places. Then brushed it with a parts cleaning brush. After that I washed it down with "Awesome" degreaser, and soapy water. I then used a drill with a wire wheel to remove any flaking paint. Aluminum foil worked great, for masking off the frame, and I sprayed it with Rustolium semi-gloss enamel. I really like their automotive enamels.

I don't think that seat would fit any bike the way it was. It was supposed to fit the 77-78 models, but it sure would have been difficult to bolt it on. The only differences between the A,F,and K frames at the seat area is different mounting brackets.

As you all might have noticed, I have not been doing too much on the Buffet racer lately. After a few set backs I decided to give up my goal of having it done by the first weekend in Oct. I now have a new goal of having it finished, by Feb. That's when the Santa Fe Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle something, or another has their show in Lawrence KS.
The two set backs that took the wind out of my sails were the carburetors, and the paint. I had rebuilt the carbs several months ago. When I was assembling them the slides were sticking in the body's. I polished them, and had them working great, but when I installed them on the bike they would not budge. Guess I need to take them apart, and do some more polishing. Then there was the paint. A friend recommended a painter, so I thought I would give him a try. I told him I wanted them painted with a single stage urethane, and to be sure to blow paint on the backsides of the side covers, and under the seat. When I went to pick the parts up there was not any paint on the backs of the side covers, or under the seat. I thought "well I could mask them off, and paint them with a spray can," so I did not get to upset. Then I went to get the tank. When I picked it up Toolbabe pointed out some runs on the side at the same time I was noticing that there was a spot that did not get painted where the tank curves under on the side. Then I noticed that the whole underside of the tank had not been painted. The painter said he would fix it, so I was just going to take the seat, side covers, and lid, for the gas tank. Then I noticed he had not painted the underside of the lid. He seemed surprised when I wanted it painted. A few days later I called to find out if the tank was ready. He said he had fixed the runs, and the place where the tanked curved under. I asked "did you paint the underneath?" He sounded surprised again, and pointed out that it did not show, and that I could do it with a spray can also. I told him that "if I had wanted it painted with a spray can that I would have painted it with a spray can." A few days later, and it was finally painted.

I did do some more work on the bike though. I fabricated new battery box brackets, and started to install the front end. I also redid the wiring to the front of the bike.
 

 

I also installed the engine guards.

Bike looks great, love how it's all blacked out like that. I gotta ask though, is that a shifter lever laying on top of the battery under the frame? And why is it there?

50% infant bovine got it The matics carried a kickstarter under the seat just like the Gold Wings did back in the 70's. If the battery goes dead, just slip the kicker on, and go.
