Does anyone know what a good vacuum measurement would be when syncing the carbs? I cant seem to find any info on it. Or does it not matter so long as they are all the same?

All equal is really what you're looking for. But the factory recommended vacuum should be in your FSM.

Awwww yeah...I love the sound of a 4-1!!!

I was surprised to see your speedo only goes to 80mph Around here we have a few stretches of interstate with a 70mph speed limit and one spot with a 75mph limit!!! Most everybody runs 80-85mph. It'd feel awesome cruising down the highway with the speedo past top speed

haha yeah! Apparently the speed limit was 55mph at the time these DOHC bikes came out and ALL speedo's were only allowed to go to 80... I'm changing mine out to the ones like half caf has except white. Gotta know how fast I'm goin  I'll post a better video once i get it back on the street. I feel like a little school girl

So my bike wont really idle unless its at 1200rpm do you think its just running too lean? I have the kerker exhaust on it stock air box and recently rebuilt carbs 3 turns out. white smoke comes out of the pipes when i first start it. I have not synced the carbs yet. Is that it?

My bike is a SOHC of course, but mine seems to idle best around 1,200-1,300 as well. The FSM calls for a 950 rpm idle but mine just doesnt like it. I can idle it down that low,but throttle responsive is very, very sensitive as to not kill the engine. 1,000-1,100 rpm is doable IMO,but not very steady. Mine seems happiest around 1,200-1,300. Just my experience with my own junk, the DOHC's may be a different animal though.Idk

DOHC spec idle is 1000 +/- 100.  I've read that it is supposed to be measured by a mechanics tach, not your tach because apparently the tach's on the bikes aren't extremely accurate and could easily be off by 100.  I couldn't get my bike to idle properly below 1,400 prior to my top end rebuild.

If I were you I would just ride it.  1,200 is great.

Experience is something you get just after you need it.

Carb sync can cause a bike to idle too high. Sync the carbs and reset the idle. This might cure it.

Got a couple things done today! Synced the carbs an then started to tune it. Noticed a hard knocking sound which is not too unusual for our bikes. Looked down and the rear can chain tensioner bolt was sitting on the engine!! Put it back on and adjusted the chains and started it up again. Knocking gone and disaster avoided! Close call though. Just adjusted the fuel/air mixture screws and it now idles at 1000 + or - 100! Gonna put the gauges back on and see if I can sync em any better than before. Sure does feel good!
